Tho bridge was a ponderous wood
structure with an iron npau of 200 feet.
In tho conter and just at tho beginning
of tho iron work train wreckers had
pulled tho spikes and removed ono of
tho rails. When the engineer discov
ered this, as was ovident from the po
sition of his throttlo and rovorso levor,
ho immediately attomptod to stop, but
was running at surh a rate of speed as
to oarry down the bridge. Every ovi
