The sun was rapidly sinking in
the West when G apt. Richards re
turned from Heath Spring* accom
panied by the inspector who prov
ed to be Lieut'. M. B. Stokes, of the
U. S. A. instead <? f Gen. Watts who
was expected. Lieut. Stokes after
witnessing the various field move
ments ai.d carefully inspecting the
arms made a neat little talk in
which he paid a high but well
earned compliment to ('apt. Rich
ards and his command for the very
creditable manner in which Ihoy
^ncnuillod themselves througnut the
in lira inspection drill, lie said that
it wa| thl best company he had
met wjih< in the State considering
the size of the company and that
they drilled in double ranks, it be
ing the second one ho had met that
drilled that way, and the other was
very sihall. lie urged the organi
zation to attend the Fair and alno
asked Caut. Richards to endeavor
to carry lf|cm as he was much
i pleased with the entire company
and would be gratilled to seo them
in the miTitary parade in Columbia
during Fair week. Lieut. Stokes
ts a very pleasant and arable gen
tleman being mild yet firm in hia
military discipline, easily winning
tho respect and 'if, teem of those
with whom he has dealings. An
elegant reception was givon In his
hoaor ou the flight ot Nov. Gth at
