Mrs. Essie Commander, nee Mo

ence, S. 0., on Inst Tuesday. The
intorraent was in Florence on Wed
nesday. She leaves six little chil

Tuesday, aged 72 years. The fu
neral services were held at the
Methodist ch inch and the inter
ment at the cemetery.

Tt is with deep regret that we
learn of the sad nllliction that be
fell Mr. J. C. Hilton, of Weslville,
on last Thursday afternoon when
one of his children was instantly
killed by lightning. The little child
with several bthers was out in the
yard when the fatal stroke came.
The others we i*? fieverely shocked.
There was also a similar occur
rence in Lancaster county llie day
previous. The Lancaster Enter
prise says : ^ ''During the rain and
thunder storm last Wednesday af
ternoon,, two daughters of Mr. R. S.
Sull.ivan, of the Newcut section,
Misses Maggie and Alice, aged 17
and 19 years respectively, were
s'.ruck and instantly killed by lighl
ning. They had gone under a large
hickory tree in the open field to
shelter from the shower."
