Montgomery, Ala., March 10. ? There is
really nothing in the story of the darky
tragedy near Selnia. Notice had heen
posted in the neighborhood warning
against arson, murder and rape. Several
white men wCm to the church for the
purpose of arresting three negroes and
did so. The negroes were carried before
a Justice of the peace and ordered hclo
fqr a hearing by the grand jury. The
sheriff uccompunlfd the prisoners and
saw them safely landed in the Selma jail.
Other negroes failed to learu what i.ad
become of the prisoners and reported the
story of the lynching.

hart, of Woodlawn, a suburb of Bir
mingham, was horribly burned, though

to put out the fire her clothing caught,
and before assistance arrived her face,
hands, neck and breast were badly
burned, and all the cuticle pealed off.
