in fine and choicely bred poultry has in

South Carolina and (ieorgia a good num
ber of high spring birds that would
hold their own in any show and against
any competition. The prime object of
the coming show is to Increase public
Interest in the rawing of gs>od poultry,
and to give fanciers a chance to come
together and iret tho benefit of compar
ing iiio.r birds. A irroat many entries
have already l>oon made rof the coming
show, and it promises one of the biggest
gatherings of chicken u.en over hold In
tho State. Tho locnj fanciers are doing
everything in their power for the suc
i^ess of the show, and will leave nothing

pleasure of those who attend. A vers

breeders who live near the city Is Mr.
I. X. Johnston, whoso poultry farms are
located at hula, on the Augusta and
Knoxvi-I'a Uailroad. and are said to bo

lion of the South. He breeds about
forty varieties, and has over a thousand
birds. There are qu.lto a number of

Wo fear there are many who neither
support the shows nor give moral aid
to them in other ways. No breeder will
fail to confess the value of shows to
poultry breeding at large, and to the
welfare and Improvement of feathered
pots. Without them tho culture of fine
ly bred fowls would never have attained
its present success. A largo exhibition
in one of tho best schools in will di to
educate a beginner in poultry that can
no imagined. Those who have never
exhibited or attended a show can have
very little Idea of tho pleasure and bene
lit from such places. Year by year I best
line exhibitions increase In interest.
The public regards them with great in
terest everywhere, and thousands avail
themselves of the opportunity to visit
them, and profit l>y tho interesting dis
play 1>efore them. If not for those an
nual exhibits, and tb.1 bringing together
of the best stock in the country, and the
meeting of fanciers at one central point
or another, there would not bo half the
zmt and pleasure in poultry keeping that
there now is. The influence upon im
proved poultry w beyond conception, and
only by keening up tho interest by these
useful displays ean we hope for perma
nent success. By all moans help to sup
port the shows, and if yon cannot be an
exhibitor, try and bo an attendant. Yon
will thus pick up many valuable points.
