railroads in this State very serious

decrease in receipts of $3,371.83 as
compared with the same month last

The largest greenback extant is;
a $10,000 bill, and only one such j
r bill has been printed by the gov- 1
eminent. Of the $5,000 bills, the!
next largest, there are seven. We:
have never seen one of either de- :
nomination.
A negro named Daniel Harvin;
was drowned last Friday whfte try- 1

Hagood. He was wanted atr court
in Manning this week,to answer a
criminal charge and ifc also very

Chinese Missionary Lecture.
H?-v Sidney C. Partridge, a mis
sionary to China, occupied the pul
pit in the Episcopal church Sunday
morning and night and delivered
two exceedingly interesting ad
dresses upon the subject of his life
work. His explanation of tbe trials

gress of foreign missions was verj- j
clear and thorongh, nnd will U 3- 1
doubtedly do mnch good in stimu-j
lating greater interest in missions

Burglar," in one act, was given,
followed by the great Irish comedy
drama, "Inshavogue." Mabel
Paige, the charming little lady,
around whom the attraction cen
tered, was the delight of the audi
ence. Although young in 3*ears,
she is already an accomplished ac
tress, with a remarkably fine voice,
and as a dancer, her equal Las
never appeared on the stage here.
Mr G. Harris Eldon, as Inshavogue,
carried out the hnmorous character
to perfection, with touches of the
pathetic stirred the very soul
of his audience. Beautiful soags
and dances by the various members j
of the company were introduced j
and excellently executed. ''Be-5

rendered by Mr J. C. Rabisch, was;
especially pleasing.

drawing conclusions from what a
few say. Town folk think and talk
very much as th* community thinks
and talks; so here follow points
| picked ap in conversation here and
there for the past three or four
days: *

Cleveland this time, 25,000 majori
ty, although it only went by 1,500
in '88. He felt perfectly confident!
of democratic success,
This feeling of confidence on the
part of Demoerats is prevalent here.
Success is in the air. My host who
is a resident and connected with
the Govt. Medical bureau says that
this \is the general feeling and he
has good opportunities to know.
The Washington and New York
papers all agree that the Democrats
are most confident. and thatj
chances fayor their carrying, both i
Indiana and New York. The cabi
net officers are all away speaking
on the stump ami Blaine's resu
rection and his "low-flung'' appeal
to the Irish vote fiom Ophir Fahn,
indicate the alaim on the other
side. The flop of Gresham and
McVeagh, one a statesman aud the
other a politician, have undoubted
ly caused great anxiety in the Re
publican breast of the country. No
mistake of this, and if the condi
