Stale Banks.
There is a growing interest mani- !
fested by the press of the- country!
in the question of Stale hanks and;
the repeal of the ten per cent, taxj
thereon as expressed in the Ikmo I
?cratic platform.
The system of Stale hanks. which
it is proposed to build up, in ease
this ten per cent,, harrier can he re
-moved, seems to hs most, admirable
and well calculated to relieve the
strain of a short currency.
The plan of utilizing stale and j
county obligations, so well explain
ed on the 9t.ump by Con. Heinp
-hill, as a basis for currency, looks
-like a good thing on its face. The
only objection arUiiii; to our minr
is the temptation it might Jxold otil
to counties and states lo issje ob
ligations less cautiously than be

This idea of reviving state banks
has grown out of the agitation for
""more money." If we mistake not,
the alliance platform, when fust
formulated, favored the repeal of
Hasten per cent, tax, the demand
