It has been my contention for years
that ear owners spend too much mon
ey for gasoline, stated Dr. Paul D.
Foote, executive vice president of tiho
Gulf Research and Development Cor
poration, today. So we decided to do
something about it.
The result is a 'booklet' 15 Ways To
Save Gasoline Money.' It might seem
a simple matter to prepare the data.
It wasn't, for 1 had six of my officials
in the research division of the Gulf
refining Company scratching their
pens and their heads for days and
weeks. Probably forty or fifty ways
of saving gasoline were proffered
and discussed. Some of the methods
depended on isolated conditions. Sotme
of t'ive methods were eligible to quest
ion. All these were eliminated.
In a form which is being offered
to motorists at Gulf Service Stations
today, the booklet is re all y^ foolproof.
It contains 15 effectivo yet simple
ways to save gasoline money. A num
ber of them, such as the parking hint,
are logical little tricks which the mot
orist can observe toy himself. Others,
such as tlbe proper inflation of tires,
can be secured at Gulf Service Stat
ions free of charge. And the rest, such
as tho part played by carhu ration, de
pend on competent attention by ex
pert mechanics.
It may seem amazing that a re
finer of petroleum products should
assujme the responsibility of advis
ing motorists how to save gasoline,
I and consequently buy less gasoline,
