ON COTTON LOANS j
South .Carolina farmers staring!
their cotton in the state warehouse j
system will bo eligible for borrowing
the ten cents a pound which tho fed- j
eral government is to lend on cotton,
J. Roy Jones, commissioner of agri
culture, commerce and industries, said
yesterdrfy.
Arrangements for the use of state
warehouse system receipts for gov
ernment loans were completed by Mr.
Jones yesterday in a long distance
conversation with Oscar Johnston,
director of finance of the United
States department of Agriculture at
Washington.
A ruling by tho agricultural ad
justment administration at Washing
ton requires the cotton to bo stored in
tho nearest acceptable warehouse as
there will be no allowance for freight
or drayage.
"Thoro nro aeceptablo warehouses
in all parts of th? state and this will
make it convenient and economical
for farmers to use the state system,"
declared tho commissioner of agricul
ture under whose direction tho system
operates.
Asked about the plan to lend ten
cents a pound on cotton, Mr. Jones
expressed the opinion that it should
mean a great deal to tho farmers of
South Carolina and he said he was
hopeful that under the aereago con
trol plan coupled with tho lending of
this money cotton would Increase in
price to where the farmers would g?<
wh&t they "are Justly entitled to."
Details for the handling of govern
ment loans on cotton are being ran
worked out in Washington and
will he released within the next few*
days, said Mr. Jones.
