GIPSY PARTY
Miss Ann Thompson entertained
with a gipsy party at her home in
Liberty Hill oh Tuesday night. The
lawn, which was decorated by colored
lanterns, was an ideal setting for the
guests who all came dressed as gyp
sies. After a number of games, the
hostess, assisted by her mother, ser
ved punch and cakes.
Fortune-telling by Miss Righton
Richards was one of the chief amuse
ments of the evening.
SMITH? CHEWNING
Mrs. Harriet E. Smith announces
the marriage of her daughter, Eloise,
to Robert E. Chewning, Jr., of Cam
den.
Mrs. Chewning is a popular and at
tractive young woman of Columbia.
She was graduated from Spartanburg
high school and attended Coker col
lege.
Mr. Chewning, so nof Mr. and Mrs.
R. E. Chewning o fCamden, is a grad
uate of Wofford college. For the last
fo^xr years he has been teaching
school in the Carolines.
Mr. and Mrs. Chewning are making
their home in Camden.? The State.
SURPRISE. PARTY
The relatives and friends of Mrs.
E. M. Mellette, who is ivisiting her
son, F. M. Mellette at Boykin, gave
her a Surprise Party Monday after
noon, July 17. The happy occasion
was her eightieth birthday.
Several amusing contests were en
joyed, after which refreshments were
served by the hostess.
Littl Henry Mellette came in and
after singing a birthday greeting to
his Grand mother, presented her with
a large box of gifts that the guests
had brought.
The out of town guests were: Mrs.
E. V. Nettles, Miss Margaret Nettles,
Miss Betty Aycook, Mrs. W. H. Ram

ishing: Teas to raise some funds for

An enjoyable party of the past
week was the bridge party of three
tables given on Wednesday morning
by Mrs. Clifton McKain compliment
ing her niece, Miss Louie Lang of
Columbia. In a setting of lovely
mixed garden flowers, the guest en
joyed Contract bridge. The high
score prize was won by Miss Mary
j Goodale and the low score by Miss
j Louise Parlor of St. George, sister of
Mrs. Joe McKain. The honor guest
was presented with a dainty gift. The

tea.

Mrs. Mattie R. Wt.?t entertained
the ladies of the Boyivin community
Friday afternoon Jul y 21 with a
miscellaneous shower for Miss Gladys
Geddings, who is to bo married the
twenty sixth of this month. The house
was decorated with ping crepe myrtle
and fern. The guests were asked to
give the "bride to bo" some advice
for future references, each line of
which began with the letters of their
names.
A Charlotte Thompson cook book
was made for Miss Geddings, the re
cipes being furnished by the ladies.
An automobile contest was then given
which created much fun. Mrs. Broad
us Thompson won first prize and
Mrs. W. C. Seagle was awarded trie
"booby." These were presented to
the guest of honor.
The ladles were then invited into
the dining room which was beauti
fully decorated in pink and white.
The center piece of the table repre
sented a bride launched on the sea
of matrimony. Delicious cake, punch
and minst were served. Each person
was given a miniature bride as a
souvenir. Little Margaret Roddy
came in with an express wagon piled
high with many lovely gifts for Miss
Geddings. The large number of which
attested to the Popularity of the
young lady.
