Blyther is visiting her Bister, Mrs. J. K. Strange of Sumter. Miss Estelie Pate of Cassatt visited Miss Maggie Lou McCasldll the past week. On Friday evening Antioch High School basket-ball team played a very exciting game with Camden High The playing of McGuirt forward for Camden was unexcelled while Leila Hinson for Antioch was equally as good. Miss Willie Haile of Camden acted as referee. We were very sor ry Mrs. Kathleen B. Watts our Coun ty Supt. of Education did not extend her visit longer Friday to witness the game. The score was 28 to 2 in Cam den's favor. We are glad to be able to mention that Mr. T. B. Blyther has returned home from the Camden Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Barnes visited their daughter, Mrs. K. B. Hill and Mrs. J. K. Strange in Sumter Satur day. ATTEMPT MADE , TO BURN HOM* A dastardly attempt to' burn the residence of Ira Mackey at Heath Springs was made on last Tuesday night but the flames which were con fined enetirely to the inside of the building were extinguished before the building was burnt. Such a large quantity of what appeared to be both gasoline and kerosene were applied to the interior of the house that an explosion resulted and residents of Heath Springs were soon attracted to the burning home. A hydrant close to the house was available and the flames were soon extinguished but not before fire and smoke had done Considerable damage to the interior of the home. Mr. and Mrs. Mackey had left the house but a few minutes before the explosion to attend a home talent play that was being given at the Heath Springs high school. The explosion which occurred rais ed the rafters and' the ceiling about six inches from the joists. However the house was closed up tight and without any air to fan the flame the interior did not burn as fast as would have been the case otherwise. Two cans were found in the house one of which had been taken from the smokehouse belonging to Mr. Mack ey. The other can had what appear ed to be about one and one-half gal lons of gasoline and kerosene mixed The can that was taken from the smokehouse had contained kerosene and this is the explanation given for the mixture of the kerosene and gaso line. On Monday the Mackeys heard v , noise about their house that seemed to be caused by cans rattling against each other but no attempt was made to burn the house on this night. Mr. Mackey told Sheriff Dabney who investigated the case that he dtf not know of anyone whom he sus pected in this matter. ? Lancastei News.
