t MANY LOVELY GARDENS OF CAUDBN VISITED THURSDAY AFTERNOON. A visit to several of the most beau - tiful {gardens in Camden was sponsor ed by the Oamden Garden Club , ^ Thursday afternoon. "Mulberry", the ! historic home of Mr. and Mrs. David R. Williams; "Cedar KnoH", the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Pomeroy; "Goodie Castle", the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll P. Bassertt; "Millbank", the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ruseell; and "Holly Hedge",. the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Wood ward were visited. Members of the clubs called for the guests in cars and after the last garden was visited tea was served at "Little Hedges", the home of Miss Fletcher. MR8w.WITHERS TROTTER ENTERTAIN CLUB. The Pridtty Afternoon Contract Club met this week with Mrs. With ers Trotter at her lovely home in Brevard Place. Substitutes for the afternoon were Mrs. Donald Morris on and Mrs. W. L. Goodale. High score prize was won by Mrs. Deas Boykin. ' Mrs. John T. Mackey, Jr., received low score. Delicious sand wiches, cookies and tea were served. MRS. F. W. SPENCER ENTERTAINS. On Friday afternoon Mrs. Frank Spencer yery delightfully entertained at bridge. Four tables were arrang ed amid a setting of lovely spring flowers. Mrs. Hughey Tindal was winner of high score and Mrs. Alfred MoLeod received low. A salad course with coffee was served. D. A. R. TOURNAMENT. On Saturday afternoon a bridge tournament was sponsored by the D. A. R. Contract and Auction bridge "was played in the homes of the diff erent members. Quite a nice sum was realized from this enjoyable af fair. Mrs. Alfred McLeod was the winner of the highest score prize in Contract bridge, Mrs. C. H. Barrett received second highest in Contract. Auction prize was won by some one in Kershaw who was playing at the home of . Mrs. Fred Culvern. The prizes were very handsome and were given by Mrs. E. E. Mandeville. A group of young people were en tertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Branham of Wiateree Pow er Plant, Friday ndght, March 5. Those present were Mlissea Ruby Bo heler, VBooby" Miller, Minnie, Olive, Matotie Watts, "Big and Little Fatty" Ford, Martha Ralbon, "Sugar Lee" and Lucile" Branham, and "Peggy" Rabon. Messrs. .Clyde, "Mutt", Jim Boheler, Henry Jeffera, Hardy Ra bon, Joe Barfield, Dick Ford, Mendel and Tom Mickle, Mike, Jack, Horace and Buck Rabon,. Bill Gettys, Mannis Rabon and "Dammy" Oaskey. Contests and games were enjoyed by everyone. The refreshm nts were lemonade, cake and crackr i. BIRTHDAY PARTY Mioses. Mafjr and Sara Cunningham celebrated their birthday by giving a party Friday afternoon at th6 home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Cunningham. A contest wan enjoyed , after which a salad ahd sweet course ' was served. Those attending tho party were: Misses Jonnie and Annie Jonea; Lila and Annie Mae Cureton; Ann Thompson; Willie Mae Peach - fend Julia Hilton. " . Y. are guests of Mrs. Nancy Zemp on Fair St. , Mr. and Mrs^ Hughey Tindal, Mr. & i Mrs. F Dess Goodale and Mr^ and Mrs. M. M. Reasonover attended the Legion dance at the Jefferson hotel in Columbia Tuesday night. AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY MET FRIDAY. The American Legion Auxiliary met Friday afternoon at the Legion Hal^ Mrs. Sam Karesh, the presi dent presided^ The meeting was o pened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, preamble to the consti tution read and the singing of Amer ica. Afer which the secretary, Mrs. E. B. Buddin read minutes of last meeting. The treasurer's report was given showing a very good balance. Various chairmen present gave splendid reports> A very enthusias tic report of the spring rally of the Legion and the Auxiliary which was hel&v in Columbia Wednesday was given by the secretary. This meeting was well attended by the Legion and Auxiliary members. After all business was transacted the meatng was turned over to the music chairman, Mts# Gandy. The Arnold Brothers from the Wateree Power Company delighted the Auxil iary with their playing and singing after which Mrs. S. C.' Zemp and Mrs.. Mendel L. Smith hostesses for the af ternoon served tempting sandwiches and teat FISH FRY FRIDAY NIGHT The Marietta Burns Circle of Lyt tleton St Methodist Church will give a fish fry Friday night, March 11th at the City Water and- Lipiht Plant in Kirkwood. Price of tickets 50 cents# The public is cordially invited, time of fish fry 7 o'clock. WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON I CLUB MEETS The Wednesday afternoon Contract club was enterttained last week by Mrst Alexander Clarkson. Lovely jonquils and other spring flowers informally arranged in the living room where the tahles were placed. Guests for the afternoon were: Miss Charlotte Shannon,, Mrs. Dan Murchi son, Mrs. Leslie McLeod, Mrs. H# G. Carrison, Jr and Mrs. I/enoard ' ? 0 Schenk. Mrs. Henry Garrison, Jr , won high score. Following the game a sweet course was served. Mr. Smth, the manager, has devoted his entire business life to a study of scientific farming and dairy methods, and today stands among the leader* of his> profession. Ehame Brothers General Merchandise The oldest General Merchandise store in Camden is that of Rhame Brothers^ Beck in 1905 when Mr. G. Carrison retired from the Gener al Merchandise business, he sold his stock and good will to the Rhame Brothers ? John E., George A# and Boykin S. Rhame, who had all been connected with various businesses oi this kind in Cajnden. For the past 27 years this firm has upheld the highest principles of the merchandis ing profession and today has a repu tation that any one might well envy< In their line they feature Purina Feeds, Gaines Dog Food, Hay and Grain, Field Seed; Cole Implements, Oliver Farm Equipment, Roysters Fertilizers, Chilean Nitrate of Soda. They also operate a cotton prin and buy cotton seed. Their live stock business is the largest in Kershaw County# At the present time the business is under the efficient management of Mr. Clarkson Rhame, while Mr> Boy kin Rhame has charge of fhe Live stock and outside business of the firm.
