THE MESSENGER WANT ADS IJRINO RESULTS J. T. HOWELL SERIOUSLY IN JURED. Standard Oil Delivery Truck Over turns On Kershaw. Bethune High way and Pins Driver Under neath. On Tuesday morning: as J- T. How oil, lucul manager of the Standard Oil Company, was going over the Ker shaw-Bethune highway on his rounds of delivery of Standard Oil products, the truck was overturned a short distance south of the Sand Hill Bap tist church and turned completely turtle, pinning Mr. Howell under neath. Mr. Arnold, driver of the Kershaw school bus, who was on his way to Kershaw with a load of chil dren coming to school, was the first one to reach the place of the accident but was unable to raise the loaded truck. Wade Jones, who was also quickly on the scene, started after help and meeting D. M. Kirk'.ey on the road coming to town, informed him of the accident and that help was needed. Mr. Kirkley went back on the road to where the road force was at work and getting them to go with him, 111 y i.ucceeded in getting Mr. Howell out and placing him in the I school bus,, he was brought to the ! Hayes Pharmacy where he received | first aid, and was taken in the Ker- | shaw Mercantile & Banking Comp- I any's Motor ambulance to the Bap- j list Hospital in Columbia. We were unable to learn the extent of Mr. j Howell's injuries, but he had a very i bad gash in th<? right side of his | forehead and had bled piofusely. He was conscious, however, and it was thought that the skull was not frac tured. No one knows just how I'.v? accident happened, as Mr. Howell was a Vv ry careful driver and had been on the truck several years with out having had an accident. ? The Kershaw Era. That every automobile or motor driven vehicle operating in the City shall be equipped with two front lights, one on each side, show ing white, and one light in the rear showing red. Whenever an electric ?:top signal is displayed at a crossing, all vehicles of any description must come to a stop before reaching the white line painted on the pavement, and remain stationary until the signal reads Go. No "U" turn to be made around a stop signal tower placed in the intersection of any street. Section 21. The driver of any ( automobile or motor vehicle of any j description before coining to a stop or making a turn shall indicate his intentions 50 feet before making a turn or stopping. The driver shall give the signal^ for the right turn, left turn or stop, as the case may be. Section 25. It shall be the duty of any person riding or propelling an automobile or other vehicle propelled by artificial power in the City of Camden to stop such v. hides when approaching or passing horses or mules, should they become frightened, on request of the owner or driver of such animal or animals, and in all cases due care should he exercised to prevent injury to persons or property. Section 2G. It shall be unlawful for any person to ride or propel any automobile or other vehicle using artificial powr r upon ,any side-walk of the City of Camden except as may be necessary in entering or leaving premises or buildings. In case where it is necessary to cross side-walks a warning must be given and said ve- I hide must cross side-walk slowly. I Section 27. Any vehicle opearting in the City of Camden shall not be over ten feet in width nor shall the j load on any vehicle operating in the City of Camden exceed ten feet in width. Section 20. It is unlawful f ? > r any vehicle to run over fire hose at any t ime. Section 30. That it be unlawful to drive any vehicle, on any block in the ( ity of Camden where fire is being f< light, within MOO feet of sn: I fire. No vehicles are allowed to follow fire truck beyond the speed limit, and not to approach within 500 feet of said truck when said truck is going t() or returning from a fire. Section HI. That it shall 1 un lawful for any person to ride any animal on the side-walks of the City of Camden. Section 32. All vehicles having anything protruding six (0) feet or more from the rear of said vehicle shall display a red flag in day and light at night. Section 38. That no person shall operate on the paved streets of the City of Camrlen an automobile with leaking gasoline; that in case an automobile is leaking gasoline, there shall be attached to said automobile or put undr snme a pan to catch the leaking ganollne.
