R. P. Cauthen, World War Veteran,
Pns?eK at Oteen Hospital
Robert F. Cauthen, son of Mr. and
Mrs. R. E. Cauthen, of Kershaw, aged
41 years, 0 months and two days,
passed away last Saturday at Oteen
hospital, the government hospital at
Asheville, N. C., where ho had been
taken just one month and two days
before in the hope that he might find
restored health or improvement from
the malady with which he had been
afflicted for a year or more. His
remains arrived in Kershaw Tuesday
morning from ^Asheville, coming by
way of Columbia, and resteel at the
home of his parents until near four
o'clock in the afternoon, when they
were taken to the cemetery at Fork
Hill Baptist church for interment.
The religious services were conducted
by Rev. Ceo. E. Smith and Rev. J. A.
Faile, of Kershaw, and the last honors
accorded him were the funeral rites
of his comrades in arms, ex-service
men of Kerwhaw and from the He Roy
Hoik Host of the American Legion at
Camden. Mso accompanying the re
mains to their last resting place, be
sides relatives and a lar^e number
of friends, were members of the Ma
sonic fraternity, Junior Order, an??
Woodmen of the World, of which he
wns a member.
He resided with his parents and lived
a epiiet and unpretentious life. At
the call of his country he entered the
training eampa and went with the
American Expeditionary Forces to
France, where he remained a full
year with the Eighty First Division,
and until he was honorably discharged
from the service. Returning home ho
resumed his quiet and ord rly life,
wjoyinK the respect and esteem of
his fellow citizens until the final sum
mons came. Surviving are his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. K. K. ( 'authen;
two brothers, W. W. and (i. 1*'.
Cauthen, and one sister, Mr-. W. R.
Fie t her, with whom their friends
sympathize in theii bereavement. ?
