Mr. Editor ? We have had some
shuwi rs recently, hut the hot sun and
wind have dissipated the meager
supply of moisture to a great extent,
and the sun is now beaming hot from
a biassy and cloudless sky, with an
appearance that seems to indicate that
lain may be many days off yet! But
who knows? Amateur prognastivat
ing is many times at fault, and weath
er conditions are like the human mind,
eftn suhjert to quick and unlooked
for changes.
Crop condit^ns arc variable. Cot
ton, where early stands were obtained,
is fairly good, so is corn, but th?re is
a lot of young cotton and corn
through the section and most crops
are needing rain now.
Rev. F. A. Drennan preached two
able interesting sermons at the
Presbyterian church Sunday morn
Mug and evening. Lnrge congrega
lions were out to henr him, and his
<liscourses were well received. A
number of visitors from other places
were present and their presence with
us was duly appreciated.
Miss Louise Jones, bookkeeper for

Rev. F. A. Drennan experts to leave
this week for a short vacation. He

mother. We wish for him n pleasant
and safe trip.
Mr. W. K. Thompson went to Rock
n in last week to accompany his wife
home. She has been under treatment
at a Sanatorium there for some t.i?r>r
and we are pleased to note that, she
r has sufficiently recovered to return to
her home.
Prof. J, P. Richards, who has been

now a great deal better. He was out

Messrs. R, C. Jones, Jr. and R. J
Wardlaw, Jr., made an automobile
trip last week covering iportionp of
Keishaw, Fairfield, Chester and Lan
caster counties. Mr. Jones reports

Standing within fifty feet of the
ch irch study where Chipps was killed

Baptist pastor, Dr. Norris told one of
? largest Sunday audiences he ever
h>.s commanded that his faith wa.?
.! onger than ever.

to the doors with many standing and
several hundred outside. Before Dr
N >rris started preaching a choir of
701) voices sang hymn after hymn
while two pianos with relays of ,-ianis;;
fi rnished the music.
When Dr. Norris finished speaking
several hundred of his congregation
sauntered down to the front of the
church to shake the preacher's hand as
h" stood before the platform. Many
embraced him and at this point Dr.
Norris showed the only suggestion
that the tragedy affected him.
Ho neither smiled nor nodded, but ap j
reared to be on the verge of tears,
and foemed to be unable to speak be
cause of emotion. While this, service
was in progress, Chipps* friends pre
pared for the latter'? funeral this ?f
ernoon.
