Gor don, delivered a v?ry forceful and ed it* l.ig discourse, at the oonolualon of which there was an unusually large number who partook of the Luni's sacrament. Grace uhurch as usual was very attractively decorated for the occasion. The Kaster offerings at tho morning service amounted to about $260, and at the Bunday school to about tBO. Mrs. Bell Kirklaud, wife of Sam Kirkland, died at her own bands Fri day morning, as a result, it is allied) '?/ the cruet tifutmeut of het husband, the details. of which are shocking In the extreme Kirkland is u man who drinks, and when under the influence of whiskey is a turbulent fellow On Thursday of last week it is alleged, he asked his wife to get in the buggy wi.h hioi, he wanted to talk to her She did so aud they drove oil together. A neighbor who saw them said their actions were suspicious. Kirkland had a gallon jug of whiskey in his buggy, ami when they returned home Mrs. Kirkland was badly bruised up her sun bonne' having blood on it, and there were other scats upon the po<T woman's body, and her fuce was swollen. The ill treatment to which she had been subjected for a number of years was more than s'ae could stand and as she had no other means of ending her trouble she satur ated her hair with kerosene oil and set tire to it, and died early Friday morning as a result of it. Coroner Dixon was notified, as was also Solic itor Cobb, and an inquest was held. The verdict of the Coroner's jury wns, "Thut Mrs. Belle Kirkland caire to her df.tth by self-inflicted wounds ?caused by her husband." A warrant ? us therefore issued for Kirkland, and he was arrested and placed in jxil to answer the charge of murder. A man sworn to protect und defend a woman who trust* herself with him, and bv his cruel, brutal treatment to be driven to a death so revolting as the one this poor woman suffered is enough to make the blood run cold. Seven chil dren we understand survive this poor mother, who bore the reputation of be ing a good woman We pity them in their fearful gloom and loneliness. One of the horses wtis burned to death and th ? other so badly injured that it had to be killed. The loss falls pretty hoavv upon this young man, and his friends sympathize with him.
