"The Jefferson Davis Highway"
is the name which will likely br
given to the state highway through
Cheraw, Camedn, Columbia, Aiken |
and Augusta, if the request made)
of the state highway commission i
t by Mrs. S. J. Lawton, of Charleston, j
ohairman of the Jefferson Davis |
highway committee of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy, is
acted on favorably. The request will
be considered by the highway commission
at its March njeeting.
The Daughters of t^te Confederacy
are interested in havifig a road fron
Washington through' the southeast
and through some of the battlefields
of the south and on to the (Pacific by
way of some of the Spanish trails
given the name of the "Jefferson Davis
Highway," in honor of the president
of the Confederacy. The South
Carolina highway' commission will
likely act favorably on the request.
