THi: AMERICAN PRESS ASSOC' \ HON J j
Elsewhere in this paper will
found several accounts of what is i
- . . u-ii- :? i
being done in the Legislative nans u<
Columbia.
It is admitted that the House is ver>
radical and judging from the way and
manner in which they are passing
bills affecting our tax system we
think they also might be termed
reckless. >
This is especially so in the case of
the income tax bill recently passed
in the House by a tmanimous vote J
without debate or consideration by |
them relying solely on the Senate to j
make the necessary amendments be-i
fore the bill finally becomes law. If
the House thus admits they are no'
competent to draft proper legislation
but has to rely on the'Senate to get
it in proper foip before passage. We
don't see how members of the Legislature
expect to claim a part in th'
framing of this important measur<
when they come before the people
again this summer.
The income tax bill as it now st'indr
is undoubtedly too drastic and wi'l
.certainly be revised considerably by
the Senate. We sincerely hope that
the Senate will take into consideration
that some of those who make in-#
comes have tax burdens and are alsc
property owners and that they will
not try to switch the whole tax load
to them with one sweep.
We want to see a tax reform as
much as anyone but we don't want
to see a reform movement killed bv
radical changes -which is sure to follow
if the Senate follows the House?
lead.
A beautiful assortment of Cl'T
FLOWERS will be in on Friday morning.
Anyone desiring them can leave
orders at the Womans Exchange, or
get them from the Cheraw Drug Co.,
or at our office at the A. C.' L. depot.
