Jrop Conditions In State.*
Rains h^ve been general through
>ut North Carolina during the past
reek, according to reports of county
arm agents. The coastal and mounain
areas report some damage to
xops on account of too much preciptation,
but in the rest of the state
hey are much improved. Some secions
of Piedmont are still dry.
In counties where it has not been
ompleted, wheat threshing is in progress,
a 5.0 per cent crop only bang
practically assured. Corn is growng
rapidly and prospects for a good
rop are excellent. In some sections
he ..rain has injured the cotton, but
eports generally indicate continued
mprovement and the crop now averages
good. Present conditions point
o a "good to fine" tobacco crop and
n most places curing is well ad
anced. Hay and grasses are in good
ondition, but reported to be wasting
a the fields in some of the mountain
ounttes due to excess rainfall. Paaures
are reported good. .
With the improvement in pastures
attle are looking better; the general
ondition of all livestock is good and
he supply about normal.
Corn has been laid by in several secions
and in some counties fa-mers
.re breaking the land for wheat.
Trops are worked out well, despite
he wet weather.

A constituent tyas written Senator
Iimmons complaining of the increas(d
cost of sending a package between
Jmithfield and Rose Hill. This packige,
which contained stationery,
reighed 48 pounds, and the charge
vas 98 cents. The same package cost
wo weeks previously 51 cents. The
ixpress charges now are 77 ceilts.
Senator Simmons thinks this cleary
indicates that parcel post ratep
lave been doubled, and intends to tell
he senate that it looks like action
aken for the direct benefit of the excess
companies.
