Home Demonstration Agent from
Winthrop College, was with Miss
Florldo McCelvrey, Asst. Dein. Agent,
Cheraw, on Monday. Two (meetings
were lueid by them at Patrick, one
in the nnorning with the girls', and
in the afternoon Miss Hailey gave a
splendid demonstration on the Testing
of Fabrics, which the ladies liked
very much. Both meetings were fine
rand the club girls and ladies have already
asked Miss Hailey to visit their
(clubs again.

AT CHESTERFIELD.

County met in the Court House last t

The floor was extended to Supt. J. j
A. Knight who discussed briefly the ! f
difTeient Acts of the General Assembly j f
| during its last session, pertaining to j r
schools, and closed with a plea for \ u
I the cooperation of the Trustees in | a
making the coming year the best year e

duties of his office and asked for the ?
aid of the Trustees in his work, es- v
' pecially during the months of July a
and August while taking the census v

After some discussion by the trus- I ^
tees as to the time for the beginning
i of the Compulsory teem, the follow- j,
! Ing motion was introduced by D?\ \V. j.
j A. Gantt, of Jefferson, and adopter]
unanimously: "That the Compulsory e
attendance term begin with the opening
day to be decided by each local ^
board of trustees."
It was moved and passed that teachers
of the County be paid for the
first ten days of sickness, and a substitute
furnished, but that for any ill- ^
ness of a longer period than ten days ^
the teacher must pay for substitutes.
The illiteracy problem was discussed,
plans foi mulated for schools to *
be opened during the month of Aug- ^
ust.

Supt. J. A. Knight made a fervent
appeal for the assistance of the Trustees
in carrying on this work. Depicting
the sad plight of a person who
is cut off from the privilege of reading f
the word of God or enjoying the news 1
of the eventR happening around them *
each day. Several Trustees pledged '
themselves to see that one of the
schools should be ?*pen?>d in their c
district. , r
About one hundred Trustees were s
present and greater interest was nev.
1 er shown in a meeting of the trustees '
! of Chesterfield County than was shown
t in this meeting. This meeting augurs
{ a great future for the school system *
' of the County. c
The next meeting will be held in
the month of Sept. on a date to be
later decided upon, which <meeting
, will be a joint meeting of the Trus
