Folks live in the large cities because (
they are compelled to do so. Their (
business, their work, their trade requires
it. In the smaller towns, resi- |

large communities in spite of them- ,
selves; but it is different with us, ,
choosing the life of the town in order to \
be happier. . (
Cheraw provides some of the essen- j
tials to contented living that are not i
to be found in the places of greater j
numerical importance. It is a ques- ?
tion of town life with us; it's a ques
tion of industrial striving with the big
cities. It is a mistake for us to think
ever and only how to become larger; 1
it is our opportunity to keep alert that 1
we may become a better community (
which is away and ahead of more im- (

portance than mere growth. The
bubble grows large; we build from the *
ground up.
The smaller cities and country towns !
may well be proud of themselves and
take courage. We are well justified
in being proud of Cheraw. r oiks van i
live in the great centers of population J
and despise their home cities, but you J
can't live in a town unless you ardj
proud of it. We've got to be civic 1

Our opportunities are immeasurable.!
Let us make the most of them. On |
every hand you hear about "efficiency.'' I
There is the efficiency of business I

It is the most Important of all, and I

"efficiency of social life" is the tiling I

COUNTY GOOD ROADS DAY. '
They had a big good roads day
observed by fully 10,000 road builder?
In Washington county, Pennsylvania. ?

men worked alongside of farmers and i
