CO-OPERATION.
Are we doing all we can?we, the
business men of Cheraw, to aid the
agricultural property on the farms
tributary to our community? Success
for each individual farmer means more
success for the town; the-e prosperity
is chief bais for the prosperity of?
Cheraw. More and more are the cities
of the United States coming to relize
that their work of promotion is only
half done if tev are not lending a hand
to the surrounding farmers, and the
towns are recognizing that the same
is true of the smaller communities as
well
As a body, the business men of Cheraw
might well adopt a program such
as the Chamber of Commerce of
Greenville, S. C? has adopted. A plank
in the platform of that organization
reads?"To further the development of
Greenville county by fostering (1)
better methods of agriculture,(2)a
safer and saner rural life, and (3)
closer relations between city and
county."
With this d'.'aration of princip'cr,
which we might copy in our own
county or township with promiaing
results, tie Greenville club proposes
to employ a farm expert. It will
cooperate with the federal government
and work with local neighboring
colleges to aid the farm and farmer,
especially emphasizing rotation of

and improving of farm buildings 1 T
will push farm boys' and girls' clubs'
promote the live stock industry, hold
township and county agricultural
falre and conduct an agricultural page
weekly in a local newspaper.
For a safer and saner rural life, the
business men propose to promote
better roads, establish rural cotnmmunlty
centers, aid five school demonstration
farms in the county and work
for ' home conveniences, prettier
bomes, more attractive yards and
better farm sanitation.
Such a program, in itself, will bring
about closer relotions between city
and county. A mutual relationship
must spring up which will be of inestimable
value to both urban and rural
diststricts, but the Greenville men
Intend to go further and promote

more times before he was elected in
1910, each time being badly defeated.
In that year he only defeated

platform. In the year 1912, although
he was running1 for a second terim
which it is usual to give our governors,
Blease was elected over Judge
Ira B. Jones by a plurality of only
5,084 and his majorityover both Jones
and Duncan was only 2,699. He is not
running tor governor this year, but
is seeking to defeat Senator E. D.
smith, the fanners' man, for re-election.

giving a governor a second term. He

trict municipal court. Brooklyn, when

lost an action against Miss Beatrice
