Columbia.?"We recommend to the I general asembly that the law regard-! ing the corporation license tax be amended, so as to fix the penalty for nonpayment of the tax when due at 100 per cent, If paid within 30 days thereafter, and if not then paid withdn 30 days, that an additional penalty ; of 60 per cent 'he added." This | clause was contained in a reso-! hition adopted by the state board of assessors which met in the office of A. W. JonSs, comptroller general, to consider the case of several delinquent corporations. Corporations sending representatives before the board were excused from payment of <lhe penalty on the condition that they ; make the proper returns and pay the usual fee. Several corporations neglected to make answer to a recent no-! tiee. Their cases were plaoed in the ' hands of the attorney general to bring | action. About 20 corporations failed to make returns.
