Mr. Henry .Jackson Seriously Hurt ,
On Tuesday evening, about 7 o'clock, .
while out driving, Mr. Henry Jackson
was seriously hurt by his horse running
away.
It seems that just as Mr. Jackson
reached - where the Coast Line track
crosses the Chesterfield dirt road, his
horse became frightened and dashed
off, taking to the railroad track instead
of the dirt road. No doubt Mr. ,
Jackson, who is an expert horseman, (
would have been able to have brought ;
the hor^ under controll had it not
been for a small trestle through which
the horse fell after having gone
about half-way accross it. As the !
horse fell through the trestle Mr.
Jackson was thrown out of the buggy, '
receiving several bad bruises and
severe cuts about the head, from I
which he bled considerably before a
doctor could be secured. i
Mr. Jackson wss taken to a hospital ;
at once and latest reports are that he <
is doing as well as could be expected.
The horse was badly cut and bruis- ;
ed, but it is thought tht he will soon <
be able to be out.

12 Counties Request Convicts.
Twelve counties have made request (
upon the board of directors of the
Btate 'penitentiary for convicts to be
used on road work. The counties
making demands for the prisoners
are: Spartanburg, Bamberg, Newberry,
Anderson, Oconee, A/bbeville,
Greenwood, Edgefield, Cherokee, flair- I
field, Saluda and Pickens.
Under the ruling of the attorney
general a prisoner may be returned
to -the county on the condition that $4
per month for each prisoner be paid
by the county officials to the penitentiary.
Announcement was made recently
by A. K. Sanders, chairman i
of the txferd of directors, that D. J.
Grimtn, supenntenaent or cne prison,
will begin in a few day's "weeding
out" prisoners who may be sent to
the county chaingangs. A majority of
the prisoners are considered too dangerous
to be without the walls of the
prison.

Jas Adams arrived in town Sunday
with his Great 10 cent show and pitched
tent on Monday on the vacant lot
next to the post office where he has
nightly been giving splendid perfor
mances to fairly good crowds. As usual
Adams' show is clean, and
thoroughly up-to-date, and nothing is
said or done to offend the most fastiioous.
He has with him this year
several new characters and the performances
given are the best for the
money ever seen here. In fact they
are superior to many for which 50
cents and $1.00 have been charged.
This show will be here only a few
more nights and if you haven't been
out take our word for it and go and
you will enjoy it. A Matinee especially
for Indies and children will be
given Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock.

Death of Mr. H. H. Finney.
Mr. Myron H. Finney died very suddenly
in this city yesterday Tuesday
afternoon at about 5 o'clock.
Mr. and Mrs. Finney were out in
their automobile and had reached
Second street, near the corner of
Market. Mr. Finney was driving. Suddenly
he fell over. Mrs. Finney, real
izing something was wrong, called for
help and one who heard the cry jumped
on the car and brought it to a
stop in time to prevent a smash. ' In
a very short time others were on the
scene and a doctor was summoned,
Mr. Finney, however, breathed his last
about the time the doctor hrrived.
Mr. Finney came to Cheraw several
years ago and was associated with the
late Mr. H. E. Clement in the conduct I
of the Clement-Ross Manufacturing!
compnny. During his sojourn here'
with us he made friends of every one
with whom he came in contact. He
be missed. He had been in bad health
for some time, suffering with heart
was a kind-hearted, good man and will
trbuble and though his death was sudden
and a shock to the entire community,
it was not unexpected to his
closest friends.
Funeral services will be conducted
by Rev. A. H. McArn in the Presbyterian
church tomorrow morning at 11
o'clock and the interment will be in
the Cheraw cemetery.
