Columbia.?The qualified electors
of South Carolina will vote in the general
election on November 5 on the
question of the issuance of $l,000,0QOi
in bonds to relieve the congested con-,
ditions at the state hospital for thq
insane. The resolution of the last|
general assembly provides for tha(
election so that funds may be secured)
to carry out the work that has been
started at "State Park." The proper
ty of the old asylum plant win o?
placed as a security for the bonds.!
The asylum commission has upon,
the authority of the general assembly)
borrowed several hundred thousand!
dollars from the sinking fund com-|
mission and this fund must be return*;
ed. Unless the bond issue carries!
then an extra appropriation will hav?
to be made by the next general assembly
to refund the loan to the sinking
fund commission.
The notices for the election on tba
bonds have been sent out by Secretary^
of State McCown to the state election
managers and tickets will be provided.

Exhibit to Road Congress.
I Columbia.?The state department of
agriculture will send a comprehensive
j road exhibit to the annual meeting
of the American Road Congress and
1 affiliated organizations to be held at
Atlantic City during the week of September
30. The exhibit will be one
; of the most complete ever prepared
1 in this state, and will be returned to
Columbia in time for the state fair.
The exhibit will be in charge of an
expert road man. A large map of
South Carolina. 14 by 11 feet, has
been painted and the various high|
ways will be marked on this map by
I the charts of the roads in the state
1 that have been surveyed by Comi
missioner Watson. Several thousand
copies of the good roads books recent
j ly issued by the department will be
distributed among the delegates ati
tending the convention.
Negro Industrial School.
I Barnwell.?It is announced authori
ltatively that a negro industrial
school will be located here in the
near future. A movement looking to
the establishment of such a school
has been on foot for several years,
but it was only until recently that It
became a certainty. The school will
be established and maintained by the
churches of Bethlehem Baptist association
of Barnwell and Bamberg

County Executive Committee Meets.
Conway. ? The county executive
committee met and officially declared
E. J. Sherwood the nominee in th^
third primary for the second place
in the house, his majority over his
opponent, W. D. Lawrimore,' being

2,471. Mr. Sherwood wins a remarkable
victory, he having come to this
county only a few years ago from
