so if they are elected it would give i
them the opinion of the people on the' s
issue. It appears to the writer that (
we are badly in need of such a protec-| <
tion. There is no organized force in .
the country at the present to keep! <
down lawlessness and to check the 1
carrying of concealed weapons; the 1
promiscuous firing of such arms along 1
the public highways and through the
rural districts. Some of the .most :
hideous crimes committed in our s
were perpetrated in the rural dis- 1
tricts in which there was no police '
protection. j'
It would prove to be a good revenue
to the county. Marlboro and i
Florence counties, as well as many <
other counties in this State, have rural1
police, why not Chesterfield county?
The exigency of such a law is at
band.

"Information has come to me from j

is clearly being done for the purpose
of perpetrating fraud and should not |
be countenanced. A reward of $100 |
will be paid for the apprehension,
with proof to convict, of any voter
who violates the rules and constitution
of the Democratic party and the statute
law of this State at the coming
primary election, to be held on the 1

Mrs. Lee Brigman, wife of Mr. Ed
Brigman, died at her home in Marl- "
joro county about nine miles from
Dheraw on the morning of the 25th.
3esides a loving husband, a son and
laughter, she is survived by three
listers and three brothers, Mr. R. C.

Spartanburg.?The board of direcors
of the South Carolina chamber of
ommerce held a meeting several
iays ago in this city, several matters
)f importance coming up for discussion
in connection with the future
vork of the organization. A set of
jy-laws, as drafted by a sub-commit:ee,
was unanimously adopted, togeth?r
with tentative plans for the financng
of the chamber. The selection of
1 subscrij?3on solicitor, managing secretary
aad publicity manager, after a
prolonged discussion, was finally left
to a committee of three members of
the beard. Applications were considered
from commercial secretaries and
pther city and state ouilding experts
scattered over fifteen different states
in the Union.
A proposition submitted Dy me i\atlonal
board of Grain Exchanges to the
state chamber through Secretary A.
tV. McKeand, was unanimously adopted
by the meeting because of its
many attractive features. According
to the proposition every county in the
state will receive a donation of $1,000
annually for a period of three years
for the purpose of advancing its agricultural
interests provided the commercial
organizations in the respective
counties raise an equal sum. The
combined total is to be placed at the
Jisposal of the government farm demonstrator
In the county as he sees fit
in the advancement of agricultuarl interests
of the people. Several counties
In the state have announced their
acceptance of the terms, which are
made without any strings tied to
them, but simply to insure the county
a safe margin in the way of agricultural
products in time of droughts
and need.
