Good Racing, Good Humor and Poor Bas^ Ball are the Features of the Day. Cheraw's Big Day was a success notwithstanding the fact that crowd was not so large as it was last year. There is no doubt but that many ol those present enjoyed the day more because the crowd was not so large, The attractions were more numerous than ever before and were well patronized. The races were exceedingly good but the base ball attraction proved a great disappointment. The Columbia club seems to be made up in great part of cheap amateurs and the way they play ball does not measure up to the. standard. Thej may measure up to the standard ol the South Atlantic League but the standard of the town that has turned out such players as Mack Tames Dicky Sullivan, Sid Smith, Pe Finlayson and many others, is sue. that such games as were played here isl Friday do not in the least appeai it its citizens. Next year we will havt better ball or no ball at all. The large crowd, as usual, was verj orderly. Everybody seemed to enjoj the day and will be ready to take ii next year's celebration. Another Bural Ronte Badly Needed There is another territory contigu ous to Cheraw that badly needs a fie< rural delivery route. It is that ter ritory out from Cheraw through Wil sonia on to the Hopedale Dairy, on t< B. T. Perkins' place on across Whor tlebery, thence on across the Chester field road on across the creek at Har din's bridge to J. C. The candidates for County offices were on hand lost Friday, au required by the order of the county executive committee, all prepare to tall the dear "peepul* their qualifications for the offices to which they aspire, but because of the great crowd of people from other states and counties here that day the candidates, after consutation, agreed among themselves that it would be better to postpone the "speaking" part of the program to some other date, therefor the presiding officer simply read the list of candidates and announced that the candidates would all return to Cheraw on the night of August 9th to address the people of the city and surrounding ter-A ritory. Mr. Editor, as I have been absent for some time I will now try again to give you a few items Trdm this section. We were all glad to see the refreshing showers that fell last night as we have had several days of dry weather. I think it will be a great heip to everything. Well, I think the big day was enjoyed by everyone, old and young. Old Charming Cheraw is noted for her bositality and for the amusements she always provides. Take for Instance | the moving picture show and the good music that goes with it And then on that day we meet up with Bo many of our old friends that recall to us the past. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bundy, of Clio, S. C, spent the day in Cheraw Friday and stayed over until Sunday night with his father, Mr. J. J. Bundy. Misses Isdore and Beulah Stubbs visited friends in and around Cheraw last week. Misses Mary and Sallie Graham, of Lilesville. N. C., are expected to arrive here next Tuesday to visit their sister, Mrs. J. J. Bundy. Mr. John Brigman was all smiles last Sunday. Ask him why. Rev. A. S. Thomas, the Episcopal minister of Cheraw preached an excellent sermon at Marburg last Sunday. His text was taken from Luke the loth chapter, What is it that causes man to sin? Is it stupidity, is it ignorance or is it self-will. This Is something to think about. Mis. Jane Dickson, of Wadesboro, N. C., is expected to arrive here the 11th to visit at the home of Mr. J. J. Bundy.
