Easlev.?In the election held here
for the purpose of selecting three
school trustees Dr. R. F. Smith, J. II.
Cheatham and J. L. Camp received
the highest number of votes. No candidates
announced themselves and the
citizens voted according to their own
choice. * Those receiving -votes were
R. F. Smith 91, J. H. Cheatham 90, J.
L. Camp 73, R. T. Thornton 31, J. L.
Bolt 11. Several parties received
smaller votes.
Barnwell. ? By an overwhelming ,
majority the citizens of Barnwell ,
voted a bond issue of $22,00b lor the ,
purpose of installing an electric light
and water works plant. Three com- '
nissinners of public works were also |
?lected, as follows: J. M. Easterling,
\iT. J. Lemon and T. S. Cave. Die

Anderson.?During the past twc
years every church in Anderson with

Columbia.?The commission charged
with erecting buildings at "State
Park" to relieve the congested condition
at the state hospital for the insane
met when a number of routine
matters were considered. Work on
the new buildings at "State Park" is
progressing well.

Mileage Good Over Small Lines.
The larger railway lines of the
state were requested by the railroad
commission at its weekly meeting tc
sell mileage good for transportation
over the smaller lines either owned
or controlled by them. The request
will apply to the Atlantic Coast Line
which is said to control the Charles
ton and Western Carolina, and to the
Southern, which is alleged by the
commission to contro lthe Blue Ridge

The political situation in Cherokee
county is decldely quiet. As yet
there has not been a single announcement
from an office-seeker, and It
vouid appear that this is to be a year

members of the house of representatives

A Very Peculiar Accident.
Florence.?A rather peculiar acc
dent occurred on East Evans street
a few days ago in which there came
very nearly being serious results. A
man was riding a bicycle. In ont
Df his pockets he carried a box ol
matches. Behind him was an auto
mobile which had just been started
up, and the auto barely grazed tlu
man's pocket, in which the matches
were, and they caught fire and would
have burned him badly' had it noi
been for some bystanders who saw
the smoke arising from his pocket
and informed him of the fact. The
fire was quickly extinguished aftei
burning a hole in the pocket.

Commissioners Appoint Guard.
Columbia.?The. county commit
sioners have appointed W. F. Cartel
guard of the Gervais street bridge
with power to make arrests. Wher
the bridge was private property fe^
rules were enforced; but now thai
the county has the bridge in charge
the statute laws pertaining to the mat
tor will be enforced. A number ol
persons already have heen arraign
ed before the magistrate for bread
of the rules governing traffic on th<
bridge. Most, of these, however
were dismissed because of the fuel
thut the rules were not as yet web
known.
Convention of Odd Fellows.
Orangeburg.?The annual conven
tion of the grand lodge of Independ
ent -Order of Odd Fellows adjourned
in this city after accomplishing ?i
great deal of work. The grand lodgf
was very largely attended, about 2UC
delegates being present, and the 3es
sions wpre very interesting and
greatly enjoyed by all Odd Fellows
The next annual convention will bf
held at Anderson, the home town ol
the grand master.

Burned Trestle Delayed Trains.
