Mrs. Chamberlain, who has been visiting relatives in Lowell, Mass., has returned home. Misses Jennie Lindsay and Willie Watklns, of Camden, are the guests of Mrs. W. A. Bull. Mr. W. C. West is announced in this Issue as a candidate for the office of County Treasurer. Miss Clair Page, who has been visiting Miss Jessie Steel at Rockingham, N. C., has returned home. Smith and children leave Saturday for Hendersonville where they expect to remain Beveral weeks. Mr. Elvers is secretary of the Chesterfield County Farmers Union and is attending the State Convention in Columbia in session in that city this week. The Cheraw Guards, of Chesterfield, will go into camp at Aiken tomorrow, that city having been selected as the place for the annual encampment of the First regiment, of which regiment the Cheraw Guards is a part. A certain young man in this town says he would enjoy his nightly calls on a certain young lady a great deal more if she Just had a good piano bo that she might play to him, "Just because 1 love you so." She wouldn't let him make her a present of a piano, (lucky thing for his pocket book that she won't), so he went to the contest manager and got a whole pad of subscription blanks and said, "I'll win her one." if he does he'll certainly Jiave to do somo tall hustling. The Wofford College quartette to appear in Cheraw next Monday night is a first class musical organization and is going to give the people of Cheraw a splendid entertainment, so you better secure your ticket at once? they can be secured at Ladd's drug store. Mr. C. F. Tillman spent Thursday last in the city of Wadesboro. This was the first visit to Wadesboro that Mr. Tillman has made since the time he passed through with Sherman's 1 army close behind. He says he rec ognized only two houses in Wades- , boro, one of which was the homestead of Judge Ashe. Mr. J. T. Ladd has received the Brush automobile that he wou in the 1 Hampton Magazine contest. It is reported that in some of the tlelds near town cotton has become , infested with some kind of little insect that causes the plant to wither up as if it had been visited by fire. Some of ' these plants will be submitted to the 1 Cleuison professors at the meeting at Mr. Tyler Watsou's spring tomorrow to see if some light can be thrown on the subject. Iii the Mayor's Court The Mayor has not been so busy this week as he usually is, having had only ^wo cases to dispose of since our last issue. The first case was that of Lula Belum, not antebellum, for disorderly jonduct and firing pistol?found guily and fined $5 in each case. i The other case was against Beht Taylor, disorderly conduct, $5. >t? Messrs. Paul and James Thompson, 3ons of Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson formerly of our town but now living at Spencerville, left last Friday for Sumter, S. C., where they have secured positions. They are both smart boys and The Chronicle wishes them well in their new home. Mr. Frank Tillman and little daugher, of Navarro, Tex., are visiting Mr. Tillman's parents, Mr. and MrB. C. F. Tillman. Mr. Tillman has been in Texas about four years. He married >ut there and lost his wife a few nonths ago, leaving him with a baby >r.ly a few months old, and this baby fr Tillman has hroucht all th wav 1 rom Texas with him.
