Washington, Dec. 1J).?It has
just been announced by the Secretary
of the Interior that the
state of South Carolina is entitled
to receive the sum of $35,000
from the government for the
promotion of schools Of agriculture
and mechanical arts, under
the Act of 1862.
The Act of 1907, increased the
amouuts previously amhorized to
be devoted to various*agricultural
colleges thronghout the country,
and as stated, the amount
that will receive this year is $35,
000. f
The total amount that will be
available to all the states from
this fund for the next fiscal year
is $1 .750,000, having incrsased
year by year to this anount.
Although there has keen some
feeliug aroused in the^tate over
the insurance laws as revised by
the last legislature, it seems as
if the changes were gocd for the
state, and that they are already
bearing fruit. The state seemato
have been pretty well rid of the
wild cat companies,- the people
who take out policies hive some
assurance that their interests
are going to be protecteed by
the state, and better tten a great
many other things we tare noted
within the past few yeeks, the
organization or two v-sry iarg?
companies bo keep upoiir insurance
premiums at hom#. If we
can be assured of the roundness
of the home company, jt certainly
ought to afford us pbasure bo
keep so large a sum ofironey as
is paid in insurance premiums
within our own states Our insurance
money has bult up the
big city of New Yonc, and it
might just as well.Jout been
used to build up our cwn cities.
Evidently the legislature was
on the right track fpr tue good
of the state.?Florence ?imts.

You should always remember
that most cough and cold cures
are constipating. Yet the most
important thing to do yhen you
have a cold is to move tie bowels.
Yon cannot promptly cire a cold
until you do this. lennedy's
Laxative Cough Syrup itops the
coughs by allaying infkmmation
of the throat and lung:, and it
drives the cold from tie system ;
