THE CHRONICLE, Clinton, S. C., Dec. 31, 1970—7-B News And Views BY-MRS.. A UR ELIA D. MOON POST ORGANIZED The McCoy, Fuller and Jen kins VFW Post No. 5932 was recently organized with Rev. Douglas McCoy as Post Com mander, Mr. Thomas H. Rice Quartermaster and Mr. Josh Savage as Adjutant. The post derived its name from the following Clintonians who lost their lives during World War I: Serviceman Wil lie McCoy, World War II - Serviceman Willie A. Fuller and Korean War--Serviceman Reginald Jenkins. On December 18 the post act ed as Santa Claus for the 120 underprivileged children at the centers in Laurens County. All veterans with overseas service are urged to contact Rev. McCoy at his South Bell Street home or call 833-3503 to affiliate with this organiza tion. YOUTH PROGRAM The Youth of Piedmont United Presbyterian Church Mount- ville, S. C. were in charge of the morning worship on Sunday. Christmas music was ren dered by the youth and other worshippers. The pastor Rev. R. E. Pearson gave as his mes sage subject “A Savior is Born.” Participating were Marcellus Pitts, Wesley Crawford, Jr., Jerry Knighton, Keith Jones, Dianne Jones, Della Pitts and Patricia Jones. A beautiful Christmas tree adorned the sanctuary. Gifts, fruit andcandy were given to the pastor and other worshippers. CHRISTMAS PROGRAM A Christmas Program was held at Mount Moriah Baptist Church on Monday Evening at 7:30. Many children gave re citations readings, and sang Christmas carols. MissSheri- ta Moon played The Little Drummer Boy as an instru mental solo. Mr. Joe M. Adams praised the tree and distributed gifts and •Christmas Bags* to the participants and listeners. Mr. Adams was a member of the jpoosorlng committee along Kith Miss Manfr~Wtlsoc and Miss Mattie C. Rice. Rev. A. Jones is church pas tor. CORRECTION Miss Denise Davis was in correctly identified in a photo graph which appeared in a re cent edition of The Chronicle. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Davis, she was first runner-up in the 'Miss Afro’ contest which was held Dec. 6 at Friendship A.M.E. Church. Miss BernedetteCrumllnwas crowned ‘Miss Afro’ and Miss Barbara Young was second runner-up. CLUB MEETS The Deaconess Club of the Mount Moriah Baptist church held its monthly meeting with Mrs. Lula Mae Wilson on Sun day evening. The home was decorated with the seasonal arrangements. Mrs. Viola Jones, club presi dent presided. A well-prepared Christmas dinner was enjoyed. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Lillie R. Sanders on South Bell Street Mrs. Elnora Summers at tended a Financial meeting of the Cosmetologist Association at the Jack Tar Hotel, Green ville, S. C. on Sunday. Spending Chrsitmas Day with their brother Mr. Ross Evans and Mrs. Evans on Evans Drive wer Mr. Clem Evans and Mr. Tommy Gay Evans of Chester field, S. C. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hunter, Sr. during the holidays were their children and grand children, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hunter, Jr. and son, Randy of Columbus, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Davis and children and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hogans of Washington, D. C., also Mr. and Mrs. George Lucky and daughter, Georgia of Bishop- vllle, S. C. Mrs. Rosa Mae Ferguson was the holiday guest of Mr. and Mrs. James Kennedy and mother in Greer, S. C. Mrs. Lula Moon, Mrs.Vinnie Blount and Mr. Joe M. Adams were overnight guests of Mr. Johnny Blount and sisters in Monroe, N. C. Miss Vera Hunter spent the weekend with her aunt Mrs. R. of Emma Rice in Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. George Lindsay and son, Makevie Columbia, S. C. and Miss Vi vian Harley of Providence, Rhode Island spen the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Harley. Among the many college stu dents home during the holidays were Miss Joan Jeter, Mr. Ed ward Harley and Miss Georgia Mae Jeter. Mr. Curtis Rice of Greens boro, N. C. spent the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Rice on Horne St Serviceman Clarence Watson and sons Don and Luis recently returned from Yokahama, Ja pan. They and his daughter Kym who had been with her maternal grandmother are visiting their mother and paternal grand mother Mrs. Adline Watson and ether relatives on South Bell Street. Mrs. Joyce Payne and son Carl Anthony arrived via plane on Monday evening for a visit with her mother Mrs. Willie Burnside and other family members. Miss Roslyn Goode and Mr. Nathaniel Smith were in the city during the holidays visiting her mother Mrs. Lillie Greer and other relatives. Miss Lillie B. Tyler of Aiken, S. C. and Miss Ann andSueTy ler of Wagener, S. C. visited Rev. and Mrs. J. D. Hammonds during the holidays. Mr. Sam Dillard of Brooklyn, N. Y. is visiting his mother Mrs. Thomas J. Rice and Mr. Rice on North Owens Street. Mrs. Eddie M. Cutter, Mrs. Frances J. Creek ana Miss Ida Jeter also Janice, Arlene and Edward of Freeport, N. Y. are spending the holidays at their homes in the Gideon Hill sec tion and Oakdale Acres. Serviceman and Mrs. Billy Hill, Rhonda and Sheridan of Andrews AFB spent the holidays with their parents and other family members. Pamela Thacker who resides with the Hills also visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Thacker. Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. M. Grant were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Edwards and children Sharawn, Ray, Allen and Gary of Philadelphia, Pa. Mrs. Josephine D. Oliver of Washington, D. C. came via plane (Spartanburg-Greenville) to spend the holidays with Mr. Loveas and Miss Lucile Dillard and other family members. Mrs. Emma C. Ferguson of Washington, D. C. was home for the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.Na- thaniel Copeland. Mr. and Mrs. John D. Wil liams, Jr. and daughter of Orangeburg, S. C. spent the hol idays with their parents Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Williams, Sr. and Mrs. Ida M. Blakely. Miss Lucinda Woody and niece Stacie Smith of Jamacia, N. Y. have returned after visit ing their sister and grand parents Mr. and Mrs. Simp Wy att. Mrs. Lizzie P. Johnson of Brooklyn, N. Y. is also visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Simp Wyatt and other relatives. COMING EVENTS Emancipation Day Program at New Grove Baptist Church, Laurens, S. C. on January 1, 1971 at 7:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Dr. Agnes Hildebrand Wilson (past South Carolina teacher of the year). The Laurens County Branch of the NAACP and the Laurens County Citizens Improvement Organization are sponsors. Ladies Alert Club is to meet Jan. 3, 1971, 3:00 at the home of Miss Lucile Dillard. Secret Pals of 1970 will be revealed. Mrs. Elizabeth Ray is visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Calvin H. Reed in Boston, Mass, and will be there for the holidays. Mrs. Gwendolyn P. Johnson and niece Miss Karen Goss flew down from New York to visit their mother and grandmother, Mrs. Alice Pitts and family for the holidays. Mrs. Vinnie M. Blount and Mr. Oliver Johnson of Buffalo, N. Y. are in the city visiting the Moon and Adams families on Gary Street. Mr. and Mrs. Joe M.
