School District Lunch
Program Is Explained
and income scale which the trict 56 has adopted for use
Laurens County School Dis- system-wide.
It is the policy of the Lau
rens County School District
56 to provide lunches free or at
a reduced price to those
children determined by their
school committee to be unable
to pay the full price for their
lunches.
The policy provides that an
application form be completed
and returned to the school.
Copies of this form were sent
home in a letter to parents
and additional copies may be
obtained at the principal’s of
fice in each school. The form
Itself is simple to complete and
requests information needed to
determine economic need based
oo the income, number of per
sons in the family, and number
of children in schools or ser
vice institutions. Additional
factors to be considered in
determining eligibility are ill
ness in the family, unusual
expenses, seasonal enployment,
emergency situations, and any
unusual circumstances or
hardships which effect the
family’s ability to pay for
school lunches. The informa
tion provided on the application
will l)e confidential and will
be used only for the purpose
of determining eligibility.
Under the provision of the
policy, the school committee
is the local official who will
make the determination of
individual eligibility. They will
use the following family size

returned home after two weeks
stay in the Hospital.
Mrs. J. O. Grout will be
making her home with Mrs.
Edgar Blakely after several
months stay in Bailey Memorial
Hospital and Nursing Home.
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Foster
were in Greenville on Sunday to
visit Mr. and Mrs. Jerre Smith
and family, going especially to
see the Smith’s new daughter,
Amy Louise.
Mrs. E. F. Culbreath of
Charlotte, N. C. will be week
end guest of her cousins. Misses
Frances and Vivian Sheely.
Friends will be interested to
know that Miss Betty Fryga
has returned home and is able
to be out again after surgery
at Providence Hospital in Co
lumbia.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Foster
were dinner guests of their
daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. William Minnick in
Aiken on Sunday. They were
joined by their daughter, Mrs.
Dick Horne and Mr. Horne of
Columbia. The occasion, being
the wedding anniversary of
the Fosters.
Gary Osborne, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Daniel Osborne of
Rt. 1, Clinton, won a trip to
the International Livestock Ex
position in Chicago on Novem
ber 28 through December 4.
He attends Bell Street Junior

there will be no identification
or discrimination against any
student unable to pay the full
cost of a lunch.
A complete copy of the policy
is on file in each school and in
the office of Mr. R.P. Wilder,
Superintendent, where it may
be reviewed by an interested
patron.
