Each couple brought a part of the refreshments which in cluded sausage biscuits, ham and beef roast on rye, cheese biscuits, a relish tray of celery, carrots and radish, brownies, chocolate cake, fruit cake, date bars, light brownies, stuffed dates, nuts and mints. Little Miss Alicia Leigh Cox gave each a plate and napkin and Jane Etta poured the punch and Linwood poured coffee. Robbie Kate and Michelle as sisted with the serving. The rooms throughout the house were colorfully decorated in the Christmas theme. The porch had garlands of holly on the columns with candles on either side of the front door. The entrance hall had a silver tree with gold and white orna ments and a white madonna with a gold arrangement on a gold pedestal. The living room mantel had a snow scene in gold and white with a large, gold nativity scene on the hearth. The den, with its green and blue tree had nine stockings hung before the fireplace and a snow scene above. r * B 0 0 ■ (If ^ | <■■■■■•,*>, • f ft' p ***» 1 * 4 # 1 AUXILIARY WRAPS GIFTS Members of the American Legion Auxiliary spent December 8 at the Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia wrapping Christmas packages for Veterans to send to their families. Unit No. 66 had 300 tray favors that local garden clubs and church circles had made, gifts from Auxiliary members and money from the unit to buy gifts. Pictured above wrapping gifts are, left to right, are: Mrs. S. C. Rowe, Mrs. Jerry Tibbitts, Mrs. W. G. King, Sr., and Mrs. Carroll D. Nance. Others at tending were Mrs. S. C. Hays, Mrs. Arnold Cannon, Mrs. Paul M. Muller, and Mrs. Henry T. Cronic, chairman. Club Gives Christmas Party S s s s s s s I s s s I s I I I The refreshments were serv ed buffet style from the dining table covered in green satin and overlaid with a white em broidered organdy cloth and centered with an arrangement of white mapolia buds and flowers with hemlock and other peenery. Each child’s bedroom had a minature tree decorated in the color of her room. After refreshments, pests were invited into the den for an hour of fellowship Mrs. Mary Lehman, teacher for the class, was presented a silver bowl as a Christmas gift. The Iris Garden Club had their Christmas Party at the First Baptist Church on Thurs day, December 3. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. John Mabry, Mr. and Mrs. Madison Pitts, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Bonds, Mr. Wednesday Club Reading “Christmas in the Valley* by James Stuart, re- nouned as a writer, Mrs. C. Bynum Betts pve the propam at the Wednesday Study Club on December 9th. The poup met at the home of Mrs. W.W. Harris on Centennial Street. Holly, box wood and red ribbon carried out the holiday theme. Ray, Mr. Martin Kriegel and Mrs. O.B. Miller. - After supper, gag gifts were opened, pmes and Christmas Carols were enjoyed. CARD OF THANKS It is with deepest love and appreciation that I wish to thank my many friends who asked about me, sent cards, flowers and other gifts during my stay in the hospital. Mildred Satterfield Birthday Celebrated Mrs. Rhett P. Adair enter tained Sunday with a family dinner honoring Mr. Adair on the occasion of his birthday. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dula, Shell Dula of Lau rens, Mr. Hubert Adair of Blacksburg, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Adair, Mr. Forest Adair, Forest Adair, Jr., Misses Kay and Kathy Hatton and Mrs. Buell Stark of Clinton. On Saturday the Adairs had as their pests Mr. and Mrs. John Page and children, Edward, Deanna, Joel and Mrs. John Still of Little Mountain. An optimist is an over-50 who weaves mistletoe into his mustache before going to the plant Christmas party. There were several coffees and drop-ins last week-end which pve a lot of people opportunities to get together with friends and exchange Christmas greetings. Mrs. Joseph Gettys issued invitations to staff members at P.C. for a Friday morning “coffee break.* And Saturday during morning and afternoon appointed hours, she invited friends over for an informal drop-in. She was joined in entertain ing by her daughters, Miss Jean Gettys of Nashville, Mrs. David (Ann) Nash of Atlanta and daughter-in-law Mrs. Joe (Laura) Gettys, Jr., also from Atlanta. It was especially nice to have a chance to meet Laura, the newest member of the Gettys family. Mrs. Gettys’ home was simply and beautifully decorat ed with the religious theme. Drawing the most attention was the tall cedar tree in the living- room trimmed with handmade wooden ornaments. Guests enjoyed coffee and spiced tea along with tasty snacks served on Christmas china. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Crabtree and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nixon had a Friday night get-together at the Crabtrees’Hickory Street home and Saturday following the P.C. game they asked a few friends to drop in at the Nixons’on Calvert Avenue. Both homes were pily de corated for the holiday season. Guests enjoyed refreshments of coffee, punch and fing* r food.
