Charles Wesley Attaway, 48 of
Norfolk, Va., a native of Whit
mire, died Thursday at Ports
mouth Naval Hospital after
serving in the Navy for 27
years.
The son of Mr. Pierce L.
and Mrs. Maggie Lackey Atta
way of Whitmire, he is
survived by his wife, Ruby
Huffman Attaway, two sons,
a daughter and one grandchild.
Also surviving is a sister,
Mrs. J. L. Abrams of Joanna
and a brother, Getts Attaway
of Greenville.
Funeral services were held
on Sunday at the Chapel in the
Woods Naval Air Station, Nor
folk.
Mrs. Spires
Mrs. Rosa B. Spires, 78, of
301 Gordon St., widow of T.
Wyatt Spires, died Tuesday,
Nov. 24, at Lexington.
A native of Edgefield County,
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Alex Banks, she was a
retired employe of Joanna Mills
and a member of Joanna As
sembly of God Church.
Surviving are two sons, Ezra
T. Spires of Chapin and Grady
W. Spires Sr. of Jacksonville,
Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Maggie
Norrell of Abbeville, seven
grandchildren; and 13 great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
on Friday at 2 p.m. in the
Assembly of God Church at
Joanna, conducted by Rev. Ray
Prosser and Rev. Bob Barnes,
Rev. R. D. Parker. Burial was
in the Rosemont Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Richard
Adams, Ed Whitsell, D. L.
Gunter Sr., Bryan Adams, J.
J. Whitmire and Oscar Harley.

CROSS HILL - William Hud-
son Cole, 86, died Thursday.
A lifelong resident of Lau
rens County, son of the late
Randolph Pickens and Mallissia
Austin Cole, he was a retired
farmer and an employe of Lau
rens County. He was a member
and former deacon of Bethabra
Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Paul
Cole of Clinton and Bar ret Cole
of Cross Hill; three daughters,
Mrs. Eva Brown of Greenwood,
Mrs. Thelma Brown of Luce-
dale, Miss., and Mrs. Lucille
Wilkie of Cross Hill; a brother
Marshall Cole of Richmond,
Va.; a sister, Mrs. Rosa Cole
of Laurens; 24 grandchildren;
and 47 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at
Bethabara Baptist Church, con
ducted by Rev. W. W. Willing
ham, Rev. Jack Carr, Rev.
James Thompson, Rev. Lloyd
Melton. Burial was in the
Mountville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Tommy
and Billy Brown, Marshall and
Charles Wilkie, BobbyColeand
Bobby Tuten.
Honorary Pallbearers were
deacons of the church.
Mrs. Bolt
Laurens - Funeral services
were held Friday for Mrs.
Cornelia Williams Bolt, G3,
of 1631 Greenwood Road. Mrs.
Bolt died Tuesday, Nov. 24.She
was the mother of Mrs. Hamp
McDaniel of Clinton.
Other survivors include
three sons, another daughter
and six grandchildren.
Services were held at
Kennedy Mortuary with burial
in Chestnut Ridge Baptist
Church cemetery.
Mrs. Gary
Mrs. Hattie Gary, 95, of Red
Line, died Tuesday, Nov. 23.
A native of Laurens County,
she was the daughter of the
late Charlie and Mary Gary
and a member of Mount Zion
A ME Church in Joanna.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs.
Mattie Herman of Jamaica,
N. Y.; a brother, Luther Gary
of Clinton; and two grand
children.
Funeral services were held
Sunday at Mount Zion A ME
Church. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
E. W. Garrett
Esley Williams Garrett of
Route 1, Woodruff, died Wed
nesday, Nov. 25, when the car
in which he was riding was
struck by a freight train.
He was a brother of Fowler
Garrett of Joanna.
Mr. Garrett was fatally in
jured when the 1967 Chevrolet
driven by his daughter, Judy,
17, was struck by a Seaboard
Coast Line freight train at the
Peachtree Street Crossing
about 9:45p.m. Wednesday. Mr.
Garrett’s daughter was injured
but was listed in satisfactory
condition at Woodruff Hospitad
last week.
Funeral services were held
Saturday at Greenpond Baptist
Church with burial in the church
cemetery.
Mrs. Ellis
Mrs. Elizabeth Grant Ellis,
wife of J. D. Ellis of Argo,
111., died Friday.
Born in Clinton, daughter of
Mrs. Maggie Grant of Laurens
and the late Will Grant, she
was a member of Church of
S. L. Gary
Sammie Lee Gary 33, of 5
Gary Square, died Friday.
A native of Laurens County,
he was a son of Miss Leila
Gary of Clinton.
Surviving also are his wife,
Mrs. Ethel Mae Gary; and a
son.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday at Hebron Baptist
Church. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Eugene Reynolds
Eugene Reynolds, 51, of 606
Elizabeth Street died Sunday
night in a local hospital. He
was a native of Hartwell, Ga.
but had lived in Clinton for the
past 15 years. He was the son
of Frank and Roxie Herring
Reynolds. He was a retired
employee of Clinton Mills.
He is survived by his wife:
Mrs. Ila Mae Mabry Reynolds,
one daughter, Miss Kathy Rey
nolds of the home, four sons,
Jerry Reynolds, Clinton, Gary,
Danny and Roger Reynolds of
the home; four sisters, Mrs.
Mrs. Fiona Smith, Winnsboro;
Mrs. Mary Price, Chesnee;
Mrs. Louise Reynolds, and
Mrs. Grace Russell both of
Spartanburg; one brother, Ho
ward Reynolds of Arcadia,
three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday at the Church of
God on Elizabeth Street, con
ducted by Rev. James W T . Wiley.
Burial was in the Pinelawn
Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers were RoySmith,
Junior Smith, Johnny Russell,
Charles Price, Leon Holmes
and Donald Melton.

Henry Lindsey died in Phila
delphia, Pa., Thursday.
A native of Cross Hill, son
of the late Tally and Mary
Lindsey, he was a member of
Vaughnville Baptist Church of
Chappells.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Mary Lou Lindsey of Nor
ristown, Pa.; two daughters,
Mrs. Lillie Pearl Chappell of
Brooklyn, N. C., and Mrs.
Gladys Jackson of Bronx, N.Y.;
