I L ■ Women's Worid Miss Dianne Rice Weds Ralph Eugene Wirick Miss Betty Dianne Rice be came the bride of Raijh Eugene Wirick, Jr. at Lydia Baptist Church, November 8 at 2 o’ clock. Rev. Malcolm Sanders and Rev. Eddie B. Brown, uncle of the bride, preformed the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter James Rice, Sr. of Route 1, Clinton. She is a graduate of Clinton High and is employed at the Thrift Loan Company, Green ville. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eugene Wirick, Sr. of 29 Welcome St., Green ville. A graduate of Carolina High School, he is employed at Winn Dixie in Greenville. Given in marriage by her father the bride wore a floor length gown of organza over peau de soie in a princess de sign with long sleeves and high neckline. The gown, which was made by her mother, was en hanced with appliques of lace from neck to hem line and hand cut rosettes of matching lace. Lace also edged the sleeves. Her cathedral length train was covered with an embroidered organza veil which was caught to a lacy headpiece. She carried a bride’s Bible topped with a bouquet of white, centered with an orchid. Maid of honor, sister of the bride, Miss Deneaer Rice, wore a street length dress of pink silk with long sleeves. The em pire waist was accented with a band forming a bow at the back. Her headpiece was a shoulder length veil of illusion which fell from a cluster of velvet ribbon. Each carried a bouquet of pink and white daisies. Miss Tracy Green of Green- viUe, neice of the groom, was flower girl. Robert Brown of Florence, cousin of the bride, was ringbearer. Organist was Mrs. Eddie B. Brown, aunt of the bride from Florence. Ushers were Mr. John Rice, brother of the bride of Clinton, Mr. Billy Edney, Mr. Clinton Green, and Mr. Charles King of Greenville. Ralph Eugene Wirick, Sr. served his son as best man. The couple is making their home at 8 Jaben Drive, Green ville. Hyman-Lollis Miss Phyllis Virginia Hy man of 3804 Pine Lakes Dr. and Lloyd Richard Lollis of Myrtle Beach Air Force Base plan a St. Valentine’s Day wedding at First United Me thodist Church, Myrtle Beach. The couple’s engagement has been announced by the bride- elect’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Middleton Hyman of Pine Lakes Dr. Phyllis is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Hatchell and of Mrs. Minnie Hyman, all of Florence. She is a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School. Rick’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Lollis of Joanna. He is a graduate of Clinton High School and attended Clem- son University. C. sponsored by the National B&PW Foundation in coopera tion with the University of N.C. and the North Carolina B&PW. Participants from six states included B&PW members from Greenville, Clinton, Spartan burg, Pauline and Beaufort in this state attending. The training co-ordinator was Ray McCain, vice-presi dent of Achievements, Inc. of Washington, D. C. Assisting him was Dr. Gerald Bell of the Business Administration fac ulty of the University of North Carolina. The training program is one of six conducted this year in the USA and Hawaii, in an effort to make the latest lead ership and management tech niques available to career women. The program are not limited to B&PW members but are open to all career women. Mrs. W. W. Harris of the Clinton B&PW Club and S. C. chairman of National Founda tion Development attended the Seminar. Garden Club To Meet The Sun Bonnet Garden Club will meet at the home of Mrs. Dave Roberts on Huntingdon Road in Merrie Oaks, Monday, November 23, at 3:30 o’clock. Members will bring guests to enjoy the annual Christmas Bazaar. Mrs. Raymond Pitts invited friends for a drop-in and “pick up* supper Thursday night at home on East Carolina. Taking advantage of nature’s autumn beauty, she used multi colored leaves and pyracantha berries in the party rooms. Especially striking was the dining table arrangement which was a pumpkin place on a re flector. It overflowed with red and yellow crysanthemums and was surrounded by fruit and autumn leaves. Mrs. Paul Martin served punch on the sun porch and Mrs. J. B.Speake served coffee. Also assisting the hostess were Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hart and Mr. and Mrs. George Bultman from Sumter. B&PW Features Tricentennial The South Carolina Tri centennial was the featured program ofthe Clinton Business and Professional Women’s Club on November 10th. President, Mrs. W. J. Crews, presided. Coinciding with the Laurens County celebration week, atten tion was called to the brochure of events especially the tours, parades and also displays Clin ton merchants have in their windows. Mrs. P. M. Pitts distribut ed mimeographed folders of a brief history of Clinton. Posters, emblems, large an tiqued plastic seals, old pic tures, catalogs, maps, papers and books were exhibited about the room by Mrs. C. R. Jenkins. Most of the twenty members present wore old-type dresses and bonnets. Pictures were taken for the scrapbook. After a delicious and attrac tively arranged catered dinner, the Program Chairman, Mrs. D. A. Yarborough, with a re corded commentary showed slides of the three Tri- centennial sites and their his torical influence upon the people, especially the children of South Carolina. All were reminded that South Carolina’s 300th birthday cele bration does not end until April 1971. These songs will be sung by school children for years to come. One song on Mrs. Spratt’s recording of her children’s chorus was played. Mrs. Spratt was asked to com pile these by the S. C. Tri centennial Commission as a contribution to the schools of South Carolina. The song books, as well as other Tricentennial Souvenirs, will be sold on the streets again during the week, Mrs. Mary Beall said. Mrs. Perry Moore, Tricen tennial Chairman announced plans for the local parade. Members in costume are to participate. Mr. Tom Rammage will drive his old Ford for the B.P.W. official vehicle. Others will ride in buggies and wagons or trucks. Mrs. M. Beall was commend ed for her work assisting with invitations to the new City Hall open house on Sunday. Mrs. P. M. Pitts was thank ed for placing posters in mer chant’s windows during National Business and Professional Wo men’s Club week. Special grati tude was expressed for the merchants cooperation. Coming events at Presby terian College were announced and members were urged to attend. Notices also was given that the Club’s annual sale of Claxton’s fruit cakes will begin at once. Miss Betty Fryga entered Providence Hospital Columbia Sunday where she underwent surgery on Monday. Her friends will be Interested to know she is convalescing nicely. Her room number is 416. Fowler has re turned from a week’s vacation trip to Malaba, Spain. He joined a group in Greenville and left by jet November 1 from Atlanta. One day was spent touring Northern Africa in Morocco. The trip was given to Bonds Lumber Company by the Heat ing and Air Conditioning Divi sion of American Standard Co. Mr. Fowerl is connected with Bonds Lumber Company. Mrs. Kitt R. McMaster of Winnsboro spent last weekend with her mother, Mrs. Hugh Simpson. Mrs. J. R. Dillard, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Bazemore and child ren, Mrs. J. B. Bazemore, Sr. and children, Mrs. R. E. Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Chand ler had as their guest for the week-end, their granddaughter, Valerie Simmons of Winthrop College. Mr. and Mrs. James H.Felkel and Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Evaa,* of Hartsville were surprise visitors of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Jenkins Saturday. Mr. Felkel was a former Principal of Mrs. Jenkins. She taught with Mesdames Evans and Felkel for a number of years. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Moore of Asheville visited Mr. Moore’s sister, Mrs. C. R. Jenkins and Mr. Jenkins last Sunday. Mrs. Jacobs Hosts Wednesday Club Using the Tricentennial theme, Mrs. J. F. Jacobs en tertained the Wednesday Study Club last week at her home on Calvert Avenue. Guests were invited into the dining room and seated at a beautifully decorated table centered with gladioli, asters and flags. A salad with accessories and coffee and strawberry tarts were served.
