Alan Cook Recital

lege will present a faculty org.in
recital on Tuesday, Noveml»er
17, at 8:15 p.m. at Broad Street
United Methodist Church m
Clinton. The public is invited.
Mr. Cook has been on the
faculty at Presbyterian College
since January, 1%7, as a
teacher of theory, organ and
piano. His college work was
taken at Ohio Wesleyan Uni
versity and at ttie University
of Michigan, wliere he studied
organ with Robert Glasgow. He
is an active member of the
American Guild of Organists,
the Presbyterian Ass'KnatRm
of Musicians, and Uie Laurens
County Fine Arts Council. He
is organist at the First Presby
terian Church in Laurens. This
year Mr. Cook will lie playing
recitals in Greenville and in
St. Petersburg, Florida, on the
organ lie designed for the First
Presbyterian Church.
For the second recital to be
played on the new Zimmer
Organ at the Broad Street
Church, Mr. Cook has selected
works by Bach, Liszt, Franck,
and three contemporary French
comp isers--Alaln, Messiaen,
and Langlais. Tlte program is as

School pictures were taken
recently of all the students at
Martha Dendy Girls' Junior
High. This year they will be in
color. Although an annual staff
has not been appointed, stu
dents may buy the pictures for
their own use. These pictures
are expected to return in a
matter of days.
The week of November 9-13
draws to a close the square
dancing course in P. E. These
classes have been most enjoy
able, as well as adding vitality-
to the curriculum. Mrs. Tucker
and Mrs. Griffin have been
directing the courses.
Eighth graders in Mrs.
Marion Neighbors’ history
classes have t>een assigned pro
jects on United States and South
Carolina history. Tliese will be
'm display next w-eek.
Lines for different (jus
drivers have been organized.
This prevents much of the con-
fusuin at the end pf the school
day, with all students for each
bus forming separate lines. On
rainy days, riders report to
certain class rooms and wait
for their bus driver’s name to
be called.
On Wednesday, many of the
girls at Martha Dendy partici
pated in the Tricentennial
parade in downtown Clinton.

On Saturday, November 7, Peggy Whitmire,
president of South Carolina Javcettes, right, was
on hand to install Clinton Jaycettes new presi
dent. Darlene Horton. Other officers not pic
tured are Nancy Black, vice-president; Linda
Crowder, secretarv. and Pat Price, treasurer.
Ex-Missionary To Speak
On Wednesday evening Nov
ember 18 at 6 o’clock p.m. a
mission study book entitled,
Tiawan-Unfinished Revolution,
will be taught by Miss Olive
Lawton at First BaptistChurch.
Miss Lawton is an Emeritus
Southern Baptist Missionary
retired in 1966 after a 42-year
missionary career. Late in 1950
she was assigned to Taiwan and
was among the first four
Southern Baptist missionaries
to go there.
A covered dish supper will
be held and everyone attend
ing is asked to bring one dish
of their choice.
This mission study will begin
