Noted Author
Napoleon Hill
Dies At 87
Author Napoleon Hill, 87, a
personal friend of two U. S.
Presidents, died Sunday in
Greenville.
He was married to the for
mer Annie Lou NormanofClin-
ton and once was associated
with Jacobs and Co. in Clinton.
He was the author of the
test seller “Think and Grew
Rich* which was first pub
lished in 1937 and sold 20 mil
lion copies. The book was re
vised in 1966. His most recent
book, “T.G.R. Action Pack* was
published in 1970. His other
works include “Success
Through A Festive Mental
Attitude* (1960) and ‘Grow
Rich With Peace of Mind’(1967).
He was head of the Napoleon
Hill Foundation, with head
quarters in Charleston, which
is concerned primarily with the
rehabilitation of convicts.
He had lived in Greenville for
18 years.
A personal friend of both
Presidents Woodrow Wilson and
Franklin Roosevelt, he is be
lieved to be the originator of
Roosevelt’s phrase ‘We Have
Nothing To Fear But Fear It
self.’
Other survivors include three
sons, two brothers, a sister,
five grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday at Shuford-Hatcher
Funeral Home in Gaffney with
burial in Frederick Memorial
Gardens, Gaffhey.
J. E Pearson
John Edgar (Ed) Pearson, 83,
of 1842 West Blvd., Charlotte,
N. C., died Friday. He was a
brother of Fritz L. Pearson of
Clinton.
Other survivors include
three sons, four daughters,
eight grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were con
ducted Monday morning at Han
kins and Whittington Funeral
Chapel with burial in Sharon
Memorial Park.
Sidney Johnston
ROCK HILL - Sidrev John
ston, 84, of Route 1, Rock Hill,
died Thursday. He was the
father of Mrs. Estelle Rollins
of Clinton.
Other survivors include four
sons, and another daughter.
Funeral services were held
Saturday at Bethesda Presby
terian Church with burial in the
church cemetery.

GREENVILLE - Ephraim Es
mond Morton, 70, of 23 Glass
St., Sans Souci community, died
Thursday. He was the father
of Miss Louise Morton of Clin
ton.
Other survivors include his
wife, two sons, a foster dau
ghter, six sisters, a brother
and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were
handled by Thomas M:Afee
Funeral Home.
Hamilton Infant
Michael Eugene Hamilton, in
fant son of Neely E. and Norma
Holtert Hamilton, died Monday.
Surviving also are tw) sis
ters. Miss Toni Hamilton and
Miss Lynn Hamilton of the
home; and his grandmother,
Mrs Hannah Hamilton of
Clinton.
Graveside services were held
Tuesday at Rose moat Ceme
tery.
CHRISTMAS BAZAAR SCHEDULED
The Newcomers Club of Clinton will have a
Christmas Bazaar at the Episcopal Parish House
on November 14. Shown above is Mrs. Jack

will be employed as a medical
social worker for the Salva
tion Army. The couple have an
apartment in Saigon.

graphic work of Joseph D. Hop
kins, assistant professor of art
and acting department chairman
at Clark College, is the Novem
ber feature of Presbyterian
College's Douglas House Gal
lery.
The display includes 28
photographs in which the artist
utilizes such modern techniques
as solarization, montage and
gradated construction. Gallery
hours run from 9 a. m. to 10
p.m., and the public is invited
to view the exhibition without
charge.
