Clinton Mills has grown from 5.(KK) spindles and 130 looms to well over 223.000 spindles and 4.300 looms. M. S. Bailey, a 19th century pioneer in the growing southland, was successful as a merchant and a banker prior to entering textile manufacturing. Following the pattern developed by the founding father. Clinton Mills has continuously improved its production fa cilities to include the most modern textile manufacturing equipment available. Well-trained personnel take craftsman ship pride in producing superior quality fabrics bearing the Clinton label. In 1948. the company established its own sales organiza tion. Clinton Cottons, Inc. Located at 111 West 40th Street in the heart of mid-town Manhattan, New York, this sales head quarters is responsible for marketing the fabrics produced by Clinton Mills. In 19bb. the company's product line was diversified and expanded to include combed cotton and polyester blend fabrics w ith the construction of the ultramodern Bailey Plant. Named for those members of the Bailey family who have served the company as President. Mercer Silas. William J.. Cassius Mercer, and Putsy Silas Bailey , the Bailey Plant marked an important milestone in the company's history as it entered the blended fabrics market. Entry into the knitted fabrics market was made in 1970, w ith the purchase of a substantial financial interest in Elastic Fabrics of America. Philadelphia, and the merger of Superior Knits. Greensboro. North Carolina. F. F. A. is an inte grated warp knitter and finisher of stretch fabrics for the foundation garment and swimwear industries. Superior pro duces Jacquard and Semi-Jacquard double knit jersey fabrics for women's and men's outerwear markets.
