TV foi* sr>«;rH f *»< CLINTON'S NEW CITY HALL 'Open House' Opens) Tricentennlcd CITY HALL OPEN HOUSE SET SUNDAY AFTERNOON Kicks Off Tricentennial Week Festivities Clinton’s new City Hall will be unveiled at a public >>pen house Sunday afternoon, kicking off local Tricentennial Week festivities. The ‘open house’ will be held from 2:00 p.m. untiM:30 p.m. Municipal offices were moved into the new C ity Hall on Thurs day, September 24. Prior to the move into the new building, the city clerk’s office, Police Department and Fire Depart ment had been in a building at 20ff N. Broad Street since about 19 34. Prior to 1934, the Police Department was in one build ing, the Fire Department in another and the city clerk’s office in another. Construction on the new city hall began the first week in June, 1969. Cannon Construction Co. of Newberry was the con tractor for the project. Can non’s original low bid was $557,631 for construction of the 25,300-square-foot, two-story municipal building. The building is of colonial design and in addition to munici pal administrative offices, fea tures a community room and kitctien. The upstairs also features dormitory space for firemen when Clinton’s Fire Depart ment is placed on a fulltime basis. The department cur rently 'iperates on a volunteer basis with three full-time em ployes. Another feature of the building is a drive-in window where citizens may pay utility bills and transact other business with the City Clerk’s office. The drive-in window also features a night depository. At its October meeting,Clin ton City Council adopted regula tions concerning the use and maintenance of the new build ing. They are as follows: COUNCIL CHAMBERS - to be used for meetings of the City Council and of the Clinton Plan ning Commission. CONFERENCE ROOM - available for use by the Clinton Housing Authority, City Council Committees, conferences in volving administrative officers and employees of ti# city, re presentatives of the Social Security Administration, S. C. Tax Commission, Internal Re venue Service and Laurens County Auditor. COMMUNITY ROOM -- will be ‘available for use by the Recorder for municipal court when the number of people pre sent warrant its use; by or ganizations organized for ed ucation and charitable pur poses; volunteer firemen of the city; by organizations connected with city, county and state government; and for public meetings called by an agency of the city, county or state govern ment. The City Clerk is charged with the assignment of re servations for its use, in all cases giving priority to or ganizations or purposes con nected with the city government; he shall not accept standing reservations for weekly or monthly meetings. Reserva tions shall not be made more than 90 days in advance. The City Clerk shall collect in ad vance from each out-of-town applicant the sum of $25 to help defray the expenses of cleaning and maintenance of the Community Room.’ INTERROGATION ROOM - will be available for use by the Recorder “when it will accomodate the persons in volved in the case of being heard.’ FIREMEN’S DORMITORY— will be available “to the volun teer firemen for the purposes of meetings, training and re creation.’ The regulations also spell out the responsibilities for maintenance of the grounds and various areas of the new build ing. The Superintendent of the Street Department will be re sponsible for the grounds, walk ways, and driveways around the building. The Chief of Police will be in charge of the parking area.
