FIX-IT
TIP
Assuming your floor has
been sanded down to the
bare wood, you can use any
kind of refinishing material
you want. Basically, these
can be broken down into two
types—the penetrating seal
er and the surface coating.
The penetrating sealer
soaks into the wood, comes
in a variety of colors and
can be used to change the
color of the wood and make
it darker. Since there is no
surface film, there is nothing
to scratch or peel.
Surface coatings (shellac,
varnish, lacquer and various
synthetic plastic finishes)
provide a hard, tough sur
face. This gives the floor
plenty of protection even
without waxing.
