4 Women's World ! WIN MUSIC AWARDS — The Na tional Federation of Music Clubs pre sented four awards of merit in Clin ton for outstanding participation in National Music Week. Mr. Charles T. Gaines, chairman of the Fine Arts Department at Presbyterian College, received a double award of merit for the Fine Arts Festival; Mrs. Harry McSween also received a double award for a program on ‘Parade of Ameri can Music.’ Two other awards went to Radio Station WPCC, 0. P. Haynes, manager; and to Mrs. Frost Walker, chairman of local observ ance of National Music Week. Fuller, publicity chair man.— (Yarborough Photo) Church Choir Entertained Mrs. James Pitts entertain ed members of the Broad Street United Methodist Church Adult choir with a chicken stew Satur day evening at her home on E. Carolina Avenue. Lovely arrangements of roses were used in the living and dining rooms. A huge ar rangement of dahlias and acuba were used in the entrance. Tables were arranged in the living, dining rooms, den and breakfast nook for the guests, which included the husbands and - wives of the choir members, former members, and the Rev. and Mrs. Ben Cun ningham. Chicken stew, mixed pickles, bread, iced tea and cup cakes were served. Later a song fest was en joyed with Mrs. Pitts, Mrs. James Lybrand accompanying at the pianos and Miss Betty Fryga, the violin. The Pharos, the lighthouse of Alexandria, Egypt, was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It stood from the third century B.C. until the Middle Ages. IM l\Tl ADAIR Mr. and Mrs. Duckett Adair of Columbia, announce the birth of a daughter, Melanie Elizabeth, on October 6. Mrs. Adair is the former Mimi Mar tin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Taylor Martin. Mr. and Mrs. L Mac Adair are the paternal grandparents. Golden Age Club To Meet The Golden Age Club of Jo anna will met on Tuesday Octo ber 20 at the JoannaClubHouse at 10:00 a.m. Each member is asked to bring a covered dish. The trip to the State Fair on October 21, will be discussed. Lady Golfers Meet Oct. 20 The Ladies Golf Association will meet on Tuesday, October 20 for bridge or golf at the Lakeside Country Club. Miss Smith Honored Miss Katherine Smith, who is to be married on October 17 to Mr. Charles Sawtelle, was hon ored on Saturday, September 26 with a linen shower given by Mrs. Van Oxuer and Mrs. Claude Lawson at the Oxner home. The bride was presented a corsage of white carnations. Each guest was pinned with a souvenir of rice tied in net and ribbon, as they registered in the bride’s book. Gorgeous arrangements of roses in mixed shades were used throughout the home. Bride’s bingo and appropri ate games were played. A toast was given to the bride as her shower of gifts were presented in a miniature umbrella de corated with satin ribbons and bells. Rosebuds were placed in each bell. A salad course was served. A representative from Merle Norman will be the guest. A short business meeting will follow. B&PW Has Fall Board Meeting Membership Director of the National Federation of Busi ness and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc., Mrs. Wanda Frey- nick of Washington, D. C., was National representative and luncheon speaker at the Fall Board meeting of the S. C. Federation of B & PW Clubs, be. The meeting was held in Rock Hill, October 10-11 with members of the Rock Hill and Chester Clubs serving as host ess. Attending from the Clinton B&PW Club were: Mrs. W. J. Crews, president; Mrs. Grace Connor, first vice president; Mrs. P. M. Pitts, Treasurer; Mrs. Mary Beall and June A- dair. Presiding at the opening meeting Saturday afternoon was Mrs. Jeri Libner of the Spart anburg Club. After the busmess session workshops on member ship and program were held. The district chairman pre sented a skit showing the technique of increasing club membership and the state chairmen gave ideas on pro gram planning. Mrs. Bertha Fortune of Easley, National Treasurer and member of the hternational Peace Garden project gave information of the Garden on the boundary be tween Canada and the United States at the border between North Dakota and Manitoba. This Garden is dedicated to keep peace between the United States and Canada. In keeping with the S. C. Tricentennial theme of the pro gram after the banquet on Sat urday evening “Know Your State* was presented as a his tory class in an elementary school with the “children* dressed in old-fashioned styles, and giving information on some of the state’s history- making citizens. Included were: Isaqueena, tadian Maid; Theo dosia Burr, Eliza Lucus, Kate Moore Barry, Henry Timrod and Anne Curtis Burgess. Miss Roberta London also gave in formation on Henry Timrod and the group sang “Carolina*, the state song written by Mr. Tim rod. The history of the S. C. State Flag was given and the program closed with a quiz on facts about the state. On Sunday morning the de votional was given by Mrs. Allen Bryum of the Rock Hill Club. She read verses from Proverbs 31 and gave informa tion on some of the business and professional women of Bible time including Miriam, Deborah, Ruth, Priscilla and Lydia. The meeting closed with the Emblem Benediction. More than two hundred attended. The Fall Board Meeting will be held in Beaufort in 1971. Auxiliary Meets Tuesday The American Legion Auxi liary will meet at the home of Mrs. P. M. Pitts, 1000 Mus- grnre Street on October 20 at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. B. F. Wingard will be in charge of the program, which will be on “Community Service." There will be a guest spe alter. Hostesses will be Mrs. S. C. Rowe, Mrs. J. P. Prather, Mrs. J. J. Mabry and Mrs. George Bagwell. PTA DRIVE—Mrs. Herb Robinson, left, sells the first membership in the Clinton Elementary School PTA membershio campaign to Mrs. Charles Pitts, president of the PTA. The drive is being’ conducted this week. Memberships are 50 cents per adult and the class which has the largest PTA membership will be honored with a party. Mrs. Robinson is chairman of the Membership Committee.— (Yaroborough Photo) Last Friday Mrs. Raymond Pitts and Miss Agnes Davis had a bridge luncheon at their home on Carolina Avenue. Two tables were set up for bridge at 10:00 and eight guests joined them for lunch at noon. The diningroom table was covered with a linen and lace cloth and centered with pink roses and dahlias. Miniature garden flowers were on the small tables. High and second high scores were held by Mrs. Ansel God frey and Mrs. Chris Adair, Sr. Mrs. J. B. Speake and Mrs. Marion Lawson assisted in ser ving the two course lunch. Mimnaughs Have Drop-In Mr. and Mrs. John L Mim- naugh had a drop-in at the Cecil Wilson home Saturday evening after the P. C. - Elon football game from six thirty until ten thirty. Acuba and large yellow mums, yellow roses and tropi- cana roses were used in the living room. The football theme was used in the decorations throughout the home. Adorning the dining room table, which was covered with a madeira linen cout work cloth, was a silver epergne filled with bronze mums, small yellow daisies and streamers in P.C. colors of red and blue. Barron whose husband is minister of Irwin Presbyterian Church. Mona and Earle have just recently moved to Irwin from Barium Springs, N. C. Misses Amelia Ann and Lisa Garren Furr of Lancaster spent the week-end with their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs! G. C. Jim Adair of Columbia has been visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Martin. Mrs. James Pitts attended the Scarborough reunion in Bishopville Sunday. Marine Lance Corporal Wil liam L. Hamer, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Hamer of 300 Maple St, Clinton, was promoted to his present rank while serving at Marine Corps Air Station New River, Jacksonville, N.C. Miss Black Given Luncheon Mrs. B. J. McCauley and Mrs. Charles Hartsell gave a luncheon honoring Harriet Black, bride-elect of Lucien McKee. Given on October 3, the luncheon was at the home of Mrs. McCauley at 122 Holly Road, Taylors. Guests were invited into the den where they were served punch and cheese biscuits. Ta bles in the dining and living rooms carried a yellow and' white color scheme. Place cards with tiny wedding bells designated each guest’s seat Friends from Clinton attend ed the luncheon and other guests were Mrs. A. B. Stump and Allison, Mrs. J. D. McKee, mother of the groom-elect, Mrs. Paul Hartsell, grand mother of the groom-elect, of Cross Anchor also assisted in serving. Miss Black was remembered with a silver tray. Miss Nan Dixon entertained friends at her home on Horse shoe Lane after Friday night’s Homecoming game. Happily, it turned out to be a victory supper after Clinton’s 27-0 win over McCormick High School. Long tables overlaid with red and white were set up on the porch and were centered with clay pots holding pompoms flanked by smaU footballs. At the end of the porch was a goal post with flowing red and white streamers. The young people enjoyed grilled hamburgers with all the trimmings. holding a dozen miniature hel mets. Swedish meat balls, corn beef for sandwiches, fresh vegetable dip, cheese molds with crackers, assorted hors d’oeuvres, punch and assorted sweets were served. Hamer. Halloween WCTU Mel Tuesday The WCTU met on Tuesday at the home of Mrs. S. C. Dunlap. An interesting pro gram was given by Mrs. J. B. Wilder. During the business session there was a discussion con cerning the State WCTU Con vention which was held in Greenville last Thursday and Friday of last week. Plans were also given for the Nov ember meeting, which win be a trip to the Laurens County Home. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs. Lewis Bagwell, Sr. was a guest of the club. DIETER’S CHOCOLATE MOUSSE 3 egg yolks 2 squares (2 ozs.) bitter chocolate 3 tablespoons bot water 1 tablespoon liquid sweetener 1 teaspoon rum flavoring 3 egg whites, stiffy beaten Put chocolate, cut into small pieces, with water and rum flavoring into blender container.
