Pearman Why Did This Happen To Me ? BY DR. HERBERT SPAUGH Why did this have to hap pen to me? is probably the most asked .question in the English language. Particularly Is this question asked a clergy- Uta vrben sorrow, tradgedy and to the experience of holier. Actually trouble is uni versal. The Bible says, “Man Is born to trouble as the sparks fly toward”. Most of us are so preoc cupied with our own personal and family circle that we do lot see nor share the troubles of our fellowman. There is an old saying, “it all depends on whose os is being gored*. Before me now is a letter from a correspondent who writes, “recently we lost our little six-year-old grand- (hughter by accidental drown- )B(. God is a good God who •ever makes mistakes and nev er allows a cross to rest onus so heavy that He does not help us bear. It has been hard to accept this circumstance as the providence of God. Being human I find myself wondering why? “Will you please pray that and how?* First, let it be accepted that trouble, trial, tribulation and bereavement is the common lot of man. Much of it is man made as is quite evident. Those who live without God, trusting in themselves, have to bear their own burdens in their own strength. It is different for the Christian believer. Jesus said “in the world ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world*. He is in volved in an inner struggle most of the time. The Bible described this in some detail in Romans where St. Paul cries out* (RSV, Romans (7:19) “For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is •rAti- that do it, but sin which dwells within me...,for I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?* Then he gives the answer, “Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.* Our victory in overcoming is through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
