Oct. 16, 1970 Legal Notice AN ORDINANCE TO LEVY AN NUAL TAXES UPON TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE CITY OF CLINTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR THE YEAR 1970 FOR THE PURPOSE OF MEETING CURRENT FECAL EXPENSES AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE PAYMENT OF BONDS AND INTEREST ON OUTSTANDING BONDS OF THE CITY OF CLINTON AND TO PROVIDE SINKING FUNDS FOR THE RETIREMENT THEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLINTON, SOUTH CARO LINA, IN COUNCIL, AS SEMBLED; Section L That a tax levy of forty-four (44) mills on every dollar’s worth of pro perty, real and personal, not exempt by law from taxation, situate and within the corpor ate limits of the City of Clinton, be and the same is hereby levied for current expenses and to defray public expenses of the City of Clinton for the current fiscal year beginning January 1st, 1970, and ending December 31st, 1970, and to meet current indebtedness con tracted by the said City of Clinton for general corporate purposes. Section 2. That over and above and in addition to the levy of forty-four (44) mills as hereinabove provided in Section 1 of this Ordinance, a levy of twenty-six (26) mills be and the same is hereby levied upon every dollar's worth of property, real and personal, not exempt by law from taxation, situate and with in the corporate limits of the City of Clinton, for the purpose of raising ' taxes to pay the interest accruing on out standing bonds of the City of Clinton and to create sinking funds to be used in the re tirement and payment of said bonds as they mature; the ex cess, if any, to be used by the City Council for general cor porate purposes. Sections. That the Clerk and Treasurer of the said City of Clinton shall enter said levies and assessments upon the books of the said City of Clinton and receive said taxes. That said taxes for the year 1910 shall be due and payable between the 1st day of November, 1970, and the 31st day of December, 1970, without penalty. That said taxes herein levied shall be paid to the City Clerk and Treasurer of the City of Clinton in lawful money of the United States of America at the office of the said Clerk and Treasurer. Section 4. That on all taxes and assessments, or any portion thereof, charged a- gainst any property or party on the books of the said City of Clinton for the current fiscal year and due to the City of Clinton that shall not have been paid on or before the thirty- first day of December, 1970, the Clerk and Treasurer of the said City of Clinton shall pro ceed to add a penalty of ten (10%) per centum on each item of said taxes on the City Tax Books, and the said Clerk and Treasurer shall proceed to col lect the said taxes including said penalties; ifthe said taxes, penalties and assessments are not paid on or before the first day of March, 1971, the Clerk and Treasurer of the said City of Clinton shall issue his exe cution directed to the Chief of Police of the said City of Clin ton against the property of the defaulting taxpayer according to law and it shall be the duty of the Chief of Police of said City to enforce the payment of the same in the manner pre scribed by law. picked for perfection... our cars STATION WAGONS: 70 CHEVELLE Concours 4-Door *— Z Seats, V18, A. The taxes herein levied shall constitute a lien upon the property upon which the tax is levied for the term of ten (10) years after the tax shall have become due and pay able. Section 6. If any section, paragraph, clause or provision of the Ordinance shall be held invalid, the invalidity of such section, paragraph, clause or provision shall not affect any of the remaining provisions of the Ordinance. Section 7. All ordinances, or parts thereof, Inconsistent herewith, be and the same are hereby repealed to the extent of such inconsistencies. Section 8. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passage. DONE AND RATIFIED by the City Council of the City of Clinton, South Carolina, in special council assembled and the corporate seal of the City of Clinton affixed this the 8th day of October, 1970. /s/ J. Mrs. Foy, former editor of Joanna Plant NEWS and The JOANNA WAY, is well-known for her historical features in the GREENVILLE-PIEDMONT and was secured especially to write of origins of legends of Laurens County place-names for this first state place-name journal in the United States, now in its seventeenth year and circulated to libraries and individuals in 47 states. Among the fourteen other articles to be included in Vol ume 17 are Nineteeth Century Academics, Chester County’ Plantations, Lord Proprietors and Their Influence on South Carolina Place Names, Wa- teree River Names, George town Street Names, Islands of the Litteral.
