Has Annual Banquet Mr. Ronald Wells, minister of music at Spartanburg’s First Baptist Church, was guest speaker Tuesday, September 29, at the annual banquet of the Music Department of Calvary Baptist Church. Calvary has eight choirs-- five voice choirs and three handbell choirs. There were 129 people present at the ban quet, including the directors, musicians and choir sponsors. Mr. Wells gave an inspiring message. After the dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Wells and Paula Arledge entertamed. Paul i Arledge is the daught er of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Arledge of Spartanburg and is a stu'lent in the second grade. She is featured soloist with the children’s choirs and also sings a solo part in the adult song-drama written by Mr. Wells 'Who Is My Neigh bor 0 ’ This song-drama will be presented at the S. C. Baptist Convention in Greenville on Wednesday, November 11 at f W nk • TSf.y. <-• 'vato.' PAULA ARLEDGE 7 p.m. at the Memorial Audi torium. Mr. Wells also is the com poser of another song-drama, "I W >nder." He is the originator of the ‘'Hirm-ny Bell’ animated music lessons for children, published by Capalla Music Co., and of “Choir Awards’, an awards system in wide use throughout the Southern state, distributed by the Aljan Corp. of Atlanta, Ga. Modern, Antique Art Objects Are On Display Modern and antique art ob jects from the collection of Clinton citizens will be placed on display during October in Presbyterian College’s Doug las House Gallery, Art Instruc tor Alta Alberga announced to day. Mrs. Wham Studeiiit Teacher DUE WEST - Mrs. Jane Bo land Wham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Boland, Jr., 509 Musgrove .Street, Clinton, is among nineteen Ersldns Col lege seniors currently receiv ing their student teaching experience. Mrs. Wham is teaching the fourth grade at Belton Ele mentary School from October 5 through November 13. Johnson Is Senior At Academy Cadet Thomas G. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Johnson of Clinton is one of more than 700 cadets who have entered their senior year at the U. S. Air Force Aca demy. Cadet Johnson will serve during the fall term as a squad ron commander with the rank of cadet lieutenant colonel. He was selected for the position because of his demonstrated leadership abilities and effec tiveness ratings. During the past summer, Cadet Johnson held an officer position as a supervisor in the academy air base security in doctrination and training pro gram for underclassmen. He also served as a super visor during a two-and-a-half week tour of Air Force bases across the country as part of an annual training program for academy sophomores. Cadet Johnson attended Presbyterian College prior to entering the academy. Upon graduation from the academy, he will be commiss ioned a second lieutenant and receive his B. S. degree. Hallman Assigned Marine Cpl. Allan B. Hall man, husband of the former Miss Ahirley A. May of 325 Byrns St., Joanna, S.C. has reported for duty at Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma,Arlz. Girls Junior High News BY CLARE TURNER This week has really been a “dinger’ at Martha Dendy Girls’ Junior High. Mr. Lenzy Randall, assistant principal, has enjoyed rining a hand bell, because the electrical bell sys tem hasn’t been working. Cheer leaders were elected last week. From the ninth grade, cheer leaders are Kathy Patterson and Wanda Barks dale, and from the eighth grade they are Teresa Grubb, Laura Jacobs, Anita Williams and Cindy Young, alternate. Amy Jacobs is the cheer leader elected from the seventh grade. A new school office, guid ance office and teachers’ lounge are being constructed. These will be located at the Blackwell To Serve In Mediterranean Navy Chief Petty Officer George W. Blackwell Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Blackwell Sr. of Route 1, Clin ton, is scheduled to serve in the Mediterranean in mid-Oct ober aboard the amphibious transport dock USS La Salle.
