When you think everything is
going against you, that everyone
persecutes you, that you have no
friends, that everything is
wrong, then it’s high time for
you to take self-examination. So
often we receive letters from

No intelligent man'or woman
who is in his right mind and in
good health will admit that
everything is wrong in this
world and around him.

I have copies of these pic
tures on the walls of my con
ference room. I use them in my
work, as they are highly sym
bolic and filled with psycho
logical and spiritual truth.
The trouble with these un
fortunates who think that every
thing and everybody are againsl
them is that they have built a
prison of their own troubles.
They refuse to climb up and
look over the walls or out the
window.
Briton Riviere painted two
magnificent pictures of Daniel
Daniel is a type of “every
man" surrounded by fear and
trouble. His helplessness is in
dicated by his tied hands and
by the seven lions. Seven is the
number of completion in the
symbolism of number. So they
indicate that he is in complete
trouble. In the first picture he
looks the lions over carefully,
calmly. The artist represents
him as being perfectly calm. In
the second picture, having sized
up the situation, he turns his
back and lays his case before
his Lord. Here is the teaching
of the psychologists who tell
us that continously reviewing
our troubles exaggerates them
out of all proportion. The spiri
tual therapist says we must go
further .than that and commit

• So if you think that every
thing and everybody is against
you, that you are in a den of
trouble where there is no help,
then heed the lessons of Ri
viere's pictures.
Stop looking at your troub
les, going over them, magnify
ing them, pitying yourself. Turn
around. Look at some of the
good things in life. Above all,
look to your God, commit your
case to Him. Jesus Christ said,
“Come unto Me, all ye that
labor and are heavy laden, and
I will give you rest." Read
the 27th Psalm where the writ
er tells us that we find free
dom as we learn to dwell “in
the house (presence) of the
Lord". St. Paul wrote truth-
ftilly “Where sin abounded,
grace did much more abound."
Surely no matter how great
the trouble, the power and love
of God is greater.

The Creed That Needs
No Revision
If you were to ask a Christian for a copy of
the “creed” or “book of rules” of the Church of
Christ, ihe could only offer you a copy of the
New Testament. The only written creed the
church that Christ built has ever had is the New
Testament. It was given by the inspiration of
God, and is sufficient to furnish the man of God
unto all good works. (2 Tim. 8:16-17) It meets
the needs of the whole world. (Mk. 16:16) This
is the only message we are authorized to use in
the conversion of sinners. (Mk. 16:16-16; Matt.
28:19-20) Jesus taught that the word of God is
enduring and that by it we shall be judged. (Lk.
21:33; Jon. 12:48) The authority of Christ, as
eapressed in the New Testament, is the only safe
guide for the Church. It is sinful for the Church 1
to submit to any other authority. The gospel is
God s power to save. (Rom. 1:16 ) James says it
ta able to save. (Jaa 1:21) Paul write* that it
dM save the Corinthians. (1 Cor. 15:1-2) The
curse of God rests upon the man who preaches
another gospel or dares to add to or subtract
from it. (GaL 1:8; Rev. 22:18-19)

of Christ, as expressed in the New Testament, as
our only rule of faith and practice. It is the one
creed that needs no revision. We invite all of
you to meet with us on the New Testament in
order that we mav be united in work and worship.
