Girls Junior High News BY CLARE TURNER This year, boys from Bell Street Junior High have been coming to Martha Dendy Girls’ Junior High for several accele rated classes. Mrs. Veda Carter has been teaching tenth grade English. For Latin, students have had classes with Mrs. Armlnta Wal lace. Miss Irene Hipp is teach ing tenth algebra to the boys and girls. Buses provide trans- portation for the boys. Sqaure dancing is now being taught in Physical Education classes. However, we will soon have <>ur own Physical Ed ucation building, with facilities where we can work outside. Cheerleaders will be elected soon. The football spirit is mounting continuously. Workmen are still busy and much has been accomplished al ready. They have added floure- scent lights which make the classrooms brighter. The girls will have six weeks’ tests next week. It is hard to believe that the first six weeks have gone by so quickly. First Aid Kits Given Mrs. Lois Y. Davis, past- president of the Martha Dendy P. T. A., 1969-70, announces the gift of first aid kits to Martha Dendy Junior Girls High, M. S. Bailey Elementary and Florida Street Elementary Schools. Although the project was a- greed upon and funds for the same were raised last year, the presentations were made after the opening of the 1970-71 term. Dunaway Wins Bronze Star Medal Sergeant First Class Richard S. Dunaway, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel L. Dunaway, 102 Washington St., Clinton, receiv ed the Bronze Star Medal Sept ember 7 while serving with the 37th Signal Batalion near Chu Lai, Vietnam. He was presented the Bronze Star Medal for distinguishing himself through meritorious service in connection with mili tary operations against hostile forces in Vietnam. The medal, adopted in 1944, recognizes out standing achievement. Sgt. Dunaway received the award while assigned as an op erations sergeant in the bat talion’s 62d Signal Company. He entered the Army in 1954 and was last stationed at Ft. Gordon, Ga. The sergeant’s wife, Dorothy, lives at 3325 Young Forest Drive, Augusta, Georgia. Boy Scouts is one of the many agencies supported in part by the UF. Scouting benefits the entire community. Its goal are self-reliance and resource fulness coupled with leadership development, service toothers, and the strengthening of per sonal spiritual ties. The Scout program is not recreational, but is an educational program. Its major responsibility is to train leaders for tomorrow. scouting appeals to boys be cause it is a program of action, doing things that are adventure some and worthwhile. This gives boys a sense of achieve ment and belonging. Scouts are conservation minded and are presently launching a new program entitled SOAR-Save Our American Resources - which promises to bring good resource management before the eyes of the public. The success of the Scoutpro- gram is insured by a pro fessional staff of men trained in Scouting who work with local volunteers giving them guidance and assistance in their local programs. Your UF dollars are used to help support these pro fessional Scouters and the var ious Regional and National Service Centers which provide supplies, badges, visual aids, summer camp facilities and other services. Your dollars spent for Scout ing become one of the most economical means of training our youth to become men of character and future leaders of tomorrow. Dailey Named Representative Len Dailey has been named the Blue Ridge Council, Boy Scouts of America, representa tive to the Reader’s Digest B. S. A. speaking contest. He will compete with other scout representatives Octo ber 3 in Columbia. Len is an Eagle Scout, and a member of Troop m, sponsored by the Clinton Kiwanis Club. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Dailey Langston Ravival LEN DAILEY Revival Services will be held at Langston Baptist Church, Thursday, October 1, throegh Sunday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. Homecoming will be held on Sunday. Rev.
