The Rev. Lance Bradley officiated at the 7:00 p.m. candlelight cere mony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Kennington of 405 Shand Street, Clinton. She is a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Dease of Ker shaw. He is a graduate of Baron DeKalb High School. He recently completed a tour of duty with the U. S. Army. He is employed at Grace Bleachery in Lan caster. The bride given in marriage by her father, wore a street- length dress of white lace fash ioned over tafetta. It was de- signed with am empire waist and ( iflng sJeeve$. ijfer shoulder length veil of illusion was at tached to a crown of braided illusion. She carried a bouquet of white carnations. Miss Susan Young, cousin of the bride, served as flower girl, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Young of Columbia. Wylie Dale Kennington, brother of the bride carried a pillow of white satin edged with lace. Rings identical to the couple’s were placed on the pillow. Mrs. Donald Faulkenberry was organist and Miss Sara Young was soloist. After a wedding trip to Myr tle Beach the couple will reside at Route 2, Kershaw. MOORE Mr. and Mrs. Milton Moore announce the birth of a son, Martin Arnold, on September 21 at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Moore is the former Jean Arnold," daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Arnold. MAIN PHONE MS-4655 Legion Auxiliary Has Music Month Tuesday evening, September 15th the American Legion Auxi liary met at the home of Mrs. Perry M. Moore. This being the first meeting of the new year, Mrs.S. C. Rowe, president, presided. Mrs. Pope Chapman presented to the Auxiliary a National Cita tion for Meritorious Service stating the Auxiliary merits special commendation and re- coginition for service in carrying forward the National program by enrolling a 1970 membership equal to or exceed ing the membership goal set by the Department. Mrs. Chapman also present ed a copy of the Original Chart er consisting of 66 names. The Copeland-Davidson Unit 56 was chartered February 20, 1931. Mrs. Earl Workman read the names. Several charter mem bers are still active. A program of Music was en joyed. Group singing and a read ing was given entitled “Music Brings Understanding*. “Song of Peace” was sung which con cluded the program. Mrs. Perry Moore announced 77 paid-up members which is Goal Plus - One. Mrs. Rowe presented plans for various programs and acti vities to be held in the months ahead, including participation in the Laurens County Tri-Cent- enial Celebration during the month of November. Throughout the Moore home were beautifully arranged early fall flowers. Mrs. Moore, assisted by Mrs. Sam McCrary, Miss Essie Workman, Mrs. Pauline Prof- fitte, Mrs. Leo Hornsby and Mrs. George Bagwell served delicious refreshments. After a period of fellowship, the meeting adjourned. Dr. and Mrs. Grover Cooley Nabors announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Cook, to Lt. Robert Atherton Blanshard, son of Mr. and Mrs. JohnJames Blanshard, Jr. of Newport, Ark ansas. Miss Nabors is a graduate of Ursuline Academy in Dallas, Texas and attended the Univer sity of Arkansas, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Bridal Parties Honor Miss Brown Bride-elect Vicki Louise Brown of Joanna has been re cently honored with a number of shower and parties. Miss Brown’s marriage to Mr. James Earl Tumblin of Gray Court is planned for October 2 at the Epworth Methodist Church, Jo anna. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Brown of 127 Tillman Circle and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Tumblin of Gray Court. On Saturday, September 12, a household shower was given in honor of Vicki at the home of Mrs. Sandra Tumblin in Hickory Tavern. Games were played and delightful refreshments served. The guests of honor received many nice gifts from friends and well wishers. Those attending from Joanna were: Mrs. Claudia Brown, Mrs. Rachel Gresham, Mrs. Alice White and Chritha Wliite, Mrs. Leroy Brown and Mrs. W. C. Brown, mother of the bride. Assisting the hostess was Mrs. Judy Stevenson and Mrs. Betty Mahon. On Saturday night, a shower was given at the Joanna Club House for the bride-elect. Host esses were Mrs. Claudia Brown, Mrs. Virginia Hazel, Mrs. Becky Brown and Mrs. Barbara Alex ander. Among the out of town guests enjoying the games and refresh ments were Judy Stevenson, Mrs. Sandra Tumblin, Mrs. Betty Mainn, and Mrs. Carrie Quisin of Hickory Tavern and Mrs. Grover Tumblin, mother of the groom. Mrs. Frances Tate, Mrs. Thelma Brown and Mrs. Florence Harrison of Greenwood, Kathleen Price and Polly Bowick, Evelyn Cosey of McCormick and Grace Brown of Ninety-Six. sorority. She made her debut at the Clinton Cotillion in 1968. She is the grandaughter of Mrs. Grover Cleveland (Mattie Adair) Nabors and the late Mr.Nabors. Lt. Blanshard is a student pilot in the United States Air Force and is stationed at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Ala bama. He is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Alpha Kappa Psi. He gradu ated with a B. S. and B. A. de grees, majoring in industrial re lations. The wedding will take place on December 30 at 7:30 in Dallas, Texas at the St. Monica Church. 50th Anniversary Celebrated Laurens Host Legion Auxiliary Mrs. Stanley E. Blenis, North Augusta, president of the S. C. Department of the American Le gion Auxiliary speaking at the Seventh District meeting on Sat urday stressed the three I’s needed in the work of the Auxi liary. The three I’s are Informa- mation, Interest and Involve ment. Information on the work of the Auxiliary, Interest which the programs should create and Involvement; that is, to get all members involved in the pro jects of the Unit. Mrs. Blenis gave a very interesting report on National Convention held in Portland, Ore. in August. Mr. Blenis was the lucky winner of the Ford car, one of the four prizes which the winners bad to be present to win. Since the district meetings this year are membership ral lies, Mrs. Blenis stressed mem bership, which now is open to daughters and granddaughters of members if they are lineal de- cendants of veterans. Goal Units to date in the district are: Clin ton, Liberty and Pickens. Laurens Unit 25, Mrs. W. M. Switzer, president, was host to the Seventh District at the Friendship Room in Laurens. Mrs. Alfred Dow, vice president, Greenville, presided in the ab sence of the President, Mrs. R. O. Chandler of Simpsonville. Mrs.George Hill, Laurens, gave the welcome and Mrs. Buice Wil liams. Easley, gave the res ponse. Mrs. Kendrick of Lau rens gave the invocation. Units represented at the luncheon meeting were: Lau rens, Clinton, Greenville, Eas- tey and Pickens. Attending from Unit 56 were: Mrs. S, C. Rowe, president, Mrs. J. J. Mabry, vice president, Mrs. L O. Thornley andMrs. P. M. Pitts. Miss Davenport Weds The marriage of Miss Judith Carol Davenport and Mr. Boh- dan Remigjusz Kramm took place August 29 at the Assem bly of God Church in Joanna. The Rev. John C. Martin per formed the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Howard Davenport of 425 Browning A ve nue, Joanna, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nico las Kramm of 413 Laurens SL, Joanna. The bride wore a floor length gown of satin overlaid with lace. Her bouffant veil of illusion was full length. Her bridal bouquet of white roses was centered with an orchid. Attendants were matron of honor, Mrs. Joyce Lawson of Clinton, maid of honor, Miss Linda Davenport, the bride’s sister, Mrs. Roger Lynn Banks, Miss Marcia Hill, Miss Phoebe Darnell and Miss Melissa Darnell of Joanna. The attendants wore full length dresses of sky blue in an em pire design. Flowers were ap- pliqued at the waistline. They wore matching veils and carried mixed flowers. Flower girl was Norma Jean Bishop of Clinton and ringbearer was Hal Darnell of Joanna. Organ music was provided by Miss Martha Ellen Abrams of Joanna. Soloist was Miss Claire Duncan of Clinton. Best man was Kent Stroud of Joanna. Ushers were Roger Lynn Banks and Tommy Banks of Jo anna, Robert Steven Bishop and Curtis Anthony Bishop of Clin ton and Barry Burke of Wood ruff. Gordon Club Members Attend District Meet Attending the face meeting of the East Piedmont District of Tlie Garden Club of South Caro lina held in Woodruff, S. C. were representatives from the Iris Garden Club.Mesdames: Gerald Carter, Clifford Harbin, Madi son Pitts, Sidney Bonds and the Yellow Jessamine Garden Club, Mesdames: Henry Cronic, Nel son Dow and MarPm Lawson. “Our Enviornment, its Growth and Beauty* was the theme for this coming year. John Albert Logan and Miss Shirley Ann Myers to Mr. Or- vill Eugene Miller was an event of September 18. Both couples were united in marriage at the office of Judge Wasson in Lau rens. Mrs. Logan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Miller of Kinards, and Pvt. Logan is the son of Mr. Delmar J. Lo gan of Columbus, Ohio and Mrs. Ethel M. Stitt of Racine, Ohio. He is stationed with the Marine Corp. at Buford where the couple will make their home. Orvill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Leroy Miller of Kinards and his bride is the daughter of Mrs. Eugene Myers of Asheville. The couple will make their home in Kinards. Mrs. Huston Host B&PW Club Meet Mrs. Arlyn Huston was the gracious and generous, dinner hostess for the September meet ing of the Clinton Business and Professional Women's Club. A recent transfer member from Ohio, Mrs. Huston entertained at her lovely country home. The program centered around a Personality Development Test, presented by Mrs. Kathleen Craig. It proved interesting and very enlightening. The group a- greed further study would be most beneficial. ' » The National Leadership Seminar for this section will be in Chapel Hill, N. C. in Nov ember, Mrs. W. W. Harris, State Chairman announced. Of special interest is the fact that any business or professional woman may attend, whether a B&P W member or not. President Crews stated, for information, that women’s groups over the state are ar ranging opportunities for women to meet Dr. Inez Geddings, candidate for the S. C. Super intendent of Education. Mrs. Nell Howard, Clinton’s first Woman Council Member, was applauded and recognized as an honor guest of the club. Mesdames Eleanor Hudgens and McCrary were also wel- combed. Mrs. Mary Beall donated at tractive felt backing to be used with the club pin. Samples were passed of the Tricentennial Souvenirs which are on sale for the club at Dell’s Beauty Salon and Mrs. Perry Moore’s Loan Co. Mrs. Pitts presented each member a Tricentennial bumper sticker (guaranteed not to da mage the car chrome) and urged its use. The club plans to participate in Clinton’s Celebration. Announcements were made of the Laurens and Clinton Joint Civic Club meeting on October 15. Seven B A PW members plans to attend. Several also want to partici pate in the Fall Board Meeting at Rock Hill, October 10 and 11. Mrs. Lula Bess Wilson re ported a wonderful time at the National Convention in Hawaii despite a flu attack. The 1971 Convention is to be in Cleveland. Get-together Club Meets Wed. The Get Together Club will meet Wettaesday, September 30 at Hodges Hall, Broad Street United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Slides of Williams burg, Va. will be shown. These slides are furnished bySouthern Bell Telephone Co. and are of fered for viewing to any civic organization and clubs by con tacting the local manager, Mr. Bob Simmons. A covered dish luncheon will be served at noon. Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Eng lish, Sr. celebrated their gold en wedding anniversary with a drop-in at the Lydia Community Building on Sunday, September 20th. Hostesses for the occasion were their daughters, Mrs. Christine Campbell, Mrs. Ophelia Rogers, Mrs. Monteen Workman and Mrs. Dorothy Gar rett They also have 16 grand children and 7 great-grandchild ren.
