Nectarine Special Occasion Cake
Dr. James Leland Young, Jr.
has recently returned from a
year’s tour of duty in Vietnam,
where he served as a Captain
in the Medical Corps. Dr. and
Mrs. Young, the former Mar
garet Brown of Laurens, and
their two children, Beth and
Ann, expect to move to Augusta,
Ga., about October 1. Dr. Young
will be stationed at Fort Gor
don for the remainder of his
army service.
Mr. and Mrs. James Moody
and J. R., and Mrs. R. C. Wil
kie were in Burnsville, N. C.
last week for the funeral of
Mrs. Wilkie’s brother-in-law,
Mr. W. M. Phillips. They also
visited Mr. and Mrs. George

The Modulators CBClub held
an ice cream party on Sunday at
the Joanna Club House. Plans
concerning the upcoming Jam
boree which is schedule for
October 9, 10 and 11th were
discussed.

\erturine Honey Meringue Cake
3 or 4 fresh nectarines 2 layers (9 inches ea.) baked
i L . cup water white or vellow cake,
2 tablespoons cornstarch cooled
1 package (3 oz.) lemon 1 egg white
gelatin cup honey
Slice nectarines to measure 2 cups: combine with water in
covered pan and boil, covered, 5 minutes. Blend cornstarch with
gelatin Mix into fruit in saucepan and cook, stirring, until mix
ture is thickened; then cook 1 minute longer. Cool. Spread on tops
of cake layers; stack layers. Whip egg white with honey at high
speed until stiff. Dollop in center of top cake layer and spread
remainder around sides of cake. Cut 9 to 12 more nectarine slices;
arrange in center of top Makes 9 to 12 servings.

Presbyterian College fine arts
department as a part-time
teacher of piano, actingChair-

He said the addition of Mrs.

music faculty of Lander Col
lege, will enable PC to serve
more local area students of all
ages. Lessons will begin the
week of September 21 for the
limited number of students who
can be accepted by her.

The Young People of the
Lydia Community are invited to
attend the opening program of
the Friday night Youth Pro
grams (TGIF) this Friday night,
September 20, at the home of

per at 7:30 p.m.
The programs will ordinarly
be held in the Lydia Community
Center each Friday night from
7:30 - 10:00 p.m.
The Child Outreach Program
(C.O.P.) for the Lydia Com
munity will begin Tuesday aft
ernoon, September 22, at the
Lydia Presbyterian Church,
from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. All
children from the first through
the sixth grades are invited to
attend. There will be crafts,
games, refreshments and fun
for everyone.
