Division service centers are
now Issuing 1971 vehicle license

hicle owners.

'Older
Americans’
Forum Set
Plans are underway for a
series of Older Americans
White House Community fo
rums to be held in September
and October throughout South
Carolina.
Ratchford Boland, Chairman
of the Committee for Region 2,
which is made up of Abbeville,
Edgefield, Greenwood, Lau
rens, McCormick and Saluda
counties, said that he is seeking
help from local public and
private agencies, churches,
senior citizens clubs, and other
interested groups in arranging
the meetings.
These forums are a first
step in involving middle-aged
and older people in planning
for the White House Conference
on Aging scheduled for Novem
ber of 1971. They will give
older Americans the chance to
speak out on their basic needs.
Income, health, housing, and
transportation are among is
sues to be considered.
The ideas expressed by parti
cipants at these ‘town meet
ings* will be used in forming
the recommendations of the
White House Conference n Ag
ing.
The time and place for the
forum for this area will be

ment Building, September 29 at

Emory P. Austin Jr., dir
ector of the motor vehicle div
ision, urged vehicle owners to
obtain their new license plates
without delay and thus avoid al
most certain long lines at the
end of the period.
He urged them to check their
renewal applications to be sure
they were correctly made out
and to fill out the property tax
and insurance information por
tions on the reverse side of the
form ahead of going for their
licenses.
Each owner must swear that
he has paid all property taxes
on the vehicle; if he falsely
states that he has paid the taxes,
he is in jeopardy of losing his
driver’s license for six months.
He must list the insurance
company -- not the agent--along
with the policy number and ex
piration date of his coverage.
Hours at the service centers
are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon
day through Friday.
The plates this year are
brown-maroon.
