I Women's World Miss Whitehead Weds Miss Anita Irene Whitehead and Mr. John Richard Cochran Jr. were united in marriage on August 29 atthe Wesley Heights United Methodist Church, Fay etteville, N. C. Rev. W. Ever ett Eason, the bride’s pastor performed the ceremony. A reception was given at the home of the bride’s parents. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ray White- head of Fayetteville, N. C. and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Whitehead of West Springs and Mrs. L.B. Burgess of Clinton and the late Mr. Burgess. She is a gradu ate of Pine Forest HighSchool, Fayetteville and Methodist Col lege in Fayetteville where she was a dean’s list student, ma joring in English. The groom, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Richard Cochran, Sr. of Chattanooga, Tenn. He was graduated from Bralnerd High SchooLChattan- is a nfth; tecture at the University of Tennessee. He is a member of Sigma Chi. The bride wore a gown of pare white peau de sole over laid with silk organza. A band oi white satin ribbon edged the etopire waistline and tied in the b^ck to fall into streamers be neath the detachable chapel tnaln. Her scoop neckline was covered with wide Venecian lafce that was accented by seed pAarls and lay over her should ers to give a sleeved effect. The matching headpiece held her double layer veil of illusion. A necklace made from an ear ring which had belong to her great-grandmother was her only jewelry. An orchid cor sage centered her bridal bouquet of white sweetheart roses and french carnations. Bridesmaids were MissJoan Burgess and Miss Jo Lynn Grambrell of Laurens, cousins of the "bride. Maid of honor was Miss Carolyn Cochran, sister of the groom of Chattanooga and Matron of honor was Mrs. Ron Gasque of Columbia, cousin of the bride. Attendants wore empire gowns ofpetal pink satsqjeau de signed with brief stand-up col lars and leg of mutton sleeves. The sheer overshirts was at tached at the waistline of each goen and edged with embroid ered rose buds of pink and green along an inverted V open ing at the front. They carried nosegays of pink sweetheart roses and feathered carnations. The groomsmen were Mr. Mark Eyssen, Steve Standifer of Chattanooga, and Mike Greer of Atlanta. Mr. Cochran was his son’s best man. Mrs. John K. Taylor of Lau rens furnished the organ music. After a wedding trip the couple will make their home in Knoxville, Tennessee. The president, Mrs. George W. Copeland, presided over the short business session. Scrip ture was read by Mrs. J. B. Wilder and followed with prayer by Mrs. J. B. Dailey. During the morning the group sang old-timey songs led by Mr. Bruce Galloway. Later refreshments were served. Annual Supper Planned Sat Members of the American Legion Auxiliary, their hus bands and friends will enjoy the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Chapman Saturday even ing, September 5 when they have their annual fish and chicken supper at their Lake Greenwood cottage. Slipper will be served at 8 o'clock. , UDC ToMeet On Sept. 3rd The first UDC meeting of the new season will be held Thurs day, September 3, at the home of Mrs. M. C. Poole on East Maple Street. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Frank lin Fowler annouce the engage ment of their daughter, Jane Ellen, to Captain David Michael Beougher son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Beougher of Lancaster, Ohio. The bride-elect is a graduate of Winthrop College and teaches at Sumter Hieh School in Sum ter, South Carolina. Capt. Beougher is a gradu ate of Miami University in Ox ford, Ohio. He is stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sum ter. The wedding is planned for November 28 at First Baptist Church in Sumter. Lancaster-Riser Miss Cheryl Lynn Lan caster became the bride of Kerry Phillip Riser in a cer emony atthe home of the bride’s parents on August 29. The vows were soleminized at 2 p.m. by the Rev. E. D. Pierce of Jo anna. A reception was given by the parents. The bride, who is the dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert DoweU Lancaster was graduat ed from Clinton High School and attended Winthrop College. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Riser of 213 Hampton Avenue, Joanna. A graduate of Clinton HighSchool, he is employed as a lab tech nician at Torrington Company. Laurens Club Features Pianist The Cora Cox Music Club will hold their first meeting of the season on September 8th at 8:00 p.m. in the Laurens High School Auditorium, featuring a piano recital by Steven Spoon. Included on the program will be selections by Brahms, Cho pin, Schumann, Rachmanihoff, and others. The public is invit ed to attend free of charge. Steve has studied previously with Mrs. Saramae Hannon of Charleston* Mrs. Flora B. Mc Millan of Clinton, Ernestine Smith of Greenville and Thomas Brockman, concert artist. He is now studying with David Gibson, head of Fine Arts at Furman University. During two successive sum mers Steve attended sessions of the Brevard Music Center on scholarship from the Cora Cox Music Club. He accompanies the Furman Concert Choir, the Greenville Civic Chorale, and is organist at Earl St. Baptist Church in Greenville. GOP Women Given Dinner On August 26, the Laurens County Women’s Republican Club gave a buffet dinner for 75 at the “Residence", Hanson Circle, Laurens. Mrs. Furman Ott is presi dent of the organization. Piper-Rochefori Vows Spoken Miss Medora Browning Piper and Thomas Hector Rochefort were married on Saturday, August 29 at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, Gre enville. Dr. Robert N. DuBose performed the noon ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Howard Piper of Greenville, her mo ther being the former Medora Browning of Clinton. The bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hector Rochefort of Cov entry Center, Rhode Island. Mrs. Rochefort wore a gown of silk peau de soie. Designs of Alencon lace, embroidered in pearls and crystals covered the bodice and continued down the princess front panel of the skirt. Clusters of soft side pleats were repeated to form a full back skirt and train. Her cathedral length veil of Rosepoint lace was attached to a matching headpiece. She car ried a nosegay of sweetheart roses and stephanotis. Mrs. Lawton Irick, Jr. of Holly Hill, S. C. was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were: Mrs. Joseph Avery Piper II, the bride’s sister in law, Mrs. Mal colm Melvin Medlin of Green ville, S. C., Miss Burns Brown ing Taylor, the bride’s cousin from Greenwood, S. C., Miss Kathleen Rochefort, the groom’s sister, Mrs. William Francis Stone, Jr. of Martins ville, Va., and Mrs. Robert John LaBare of St. Paul, Minn. All attendants were dressed alike in apricot chiffon skirts topped by white blouses with leg o’mutton sleeves. Jabots of soft pleats trimmed the Ixxlice. Senior ushers were Arthur Hal- lam Cottingham and David Gat ling Traxler, both of Green ville, S. C. Wedding music was furnished by Freeman Orr and Charles Curtis. The bride is a graduate of Converse College in Spartan burg, where she was a member of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and received a Master’s Degree from the University of Tenn essee. She was pra—ted at the Debutante 964 and is a member offhe Junior League. Mr. Rochefort was graduated from the University of Rhode Island and is connected with Morse Chain Company in Ithaca, New York. Mr. and Mrs. Piper gave a reception at the Greenville Country Club following the ceremony. After a wedding trip to St Thomas in the Virgin Islands the couple will make their home in Ithaca, New York.
